A Methodist in Your Midst
RE: A Methodist in Your Midst

Here's the thing. At the end of the day, a theology degree is a claim to know things that only the dead are in a position to know with certainty and confidence. Theology isn't knowledge. It's crass speculation. A preacher with a degree in theology has no way to tell if Jesus died for our sins, or Athena sprang from the head of Zeus or Ragnarok will come because Loki and Balder couldn't get along. At the levels of evidence, anything is possible, and the truth could easily be stranger than anyone's guess. (Hastur! Hastur! He's our man. If he can't do it, Nodens can!). So a person peddling degrees in faith is peddling the pretense to knowledge they have no way of knowing.

@FNM: I didn't follow the convo, but you might want to look at the Five Solas of Protestantism if you aren't already familiar.

Shouldn't you be saying "I believe Faith in Jesus yada yada yada..." rather than stating as if it is a fact?

You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

Someone's story about a dream hardly qualifies as hearsay, much less evidence.

Hold on there Christian.

Some dude, on an internet forum, who you don't know, writes a post saying he was visited by Angels telling him and no-one else an incredible revelation that the end is imminent and decides AtheistForums.org was the place to share and your default position is "Really? Shit.. must be true".

Where is your filter for the imaginary. You cannot go through life automatically accepting every single thing you are told and read!

Think about that for ONE second. I'm surprised you didn't ask your pastor to think it through for you.

If you’re going to watch tele, you should watch Scooby Doo. That show was so cool because every time there’s a church with a ghoul, or a ghost in a school. They looked beneath the mask and what was inside?

Since the bible is true and infallible(in your mind at least)

Could you be good enough to explain this bit to me.....

" Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth
thy little ones against the stones."

Psalms 137:9

You're either a troll or just extremely delusional. The world will end when we are hit with a large asteroid/meteor or when the sun dies. Both of which we will see coming.

fr0d0 Wrote:@ FNM: Faith in Jesus is still the only way to salvation. The statement doesn't seem to contradict that. I very much value all ideas I can think of I've heard on the subject, including those to the contrary. It doesn't then follow that those ideas replicate salvation as I understand it. They can only ever be complimentary. I do believe it necessary for God to have a whole other methodology, but that's God acting and not us. ie our only way to him is through Jesus, but he isn't tied to that route back to us.

So, how do you explain their reluctance to state that everyone of other religions are going to hell?

No, I was not familiar. Thanks.

Crazy dude had a dream about angels. Not the first time this has happened.

I quite often have dreams of angels. They are always female and extremely hot. Wink
