One of the original proponents of Atheism+ has gotten a taste of the Atheism+ forum behaviour... and he didn't like what he saw. Little surprise that lots of other people also don't like what they see there.

When I first made a joke image of the Atheism+ logo, someone called rriverstone basically attacked me for doing so... she was a strong supporter of the ideals of Atheism+. However, during a random YouTube trawl, I noticed a video by rriverstone complaining about being issued a warning on their forums... and she is now antagonistic to some of the FTB people. You can't be a supporter of Atheism+ if your values aren't exactly 100%-aligned to that of the moderators there.

Matt Dillahunty is going to make a video today. Apparently.

I laughed my ass off reading that thread. They sure are pissing in their own boot. The only sensible person there seemed to be the admin, who actually tackled the problem of instadeleting posts instead of whining about all the big bad trolls.

I don't get the whole celebrity culture within online atheism. Someone's views are no more (or less) worthwhile, simply because they've climbed some greasy pole. It's one the aspects of people like Greta Christina, who (more than once) refer to themselves as atheistic "leaders". Oh, really? There was a vote? I've been an atheist my whole life and I've never needed (nor wanted) someone as any kind of leader of that viewpoint.

I respect some people more than others and hold them in higher esteem due to their ability to hone in on relevant points and express them to the general public. That's part of why I hold NdGT in such high regard.

I've suddenly got that Monte Python and The Holy Grail skit in my head:

"What I object to is the way you automatically treat me like I'm an inferior."

"Well, I am one of the leaders in the atheist community."

"Oh, 'leader' eh? Very nice. And how'd you get that, eh? By exploiting the movement. By hanging on to outdated social hierarchical constructs and cult of personalities of the very religious institutions that we're trying to escape from. If there's ever going to be any progress..."

...and the skit ends with something along the lines of "Come and see the egotistical self-righteousness inherent in the cult of personality system! Help, help, I'm being suppressed!"
