i hate death penalty's because its an waist of "bullets" for those sick people. But i would gladly give them force work penalty.

It is so much easier to punish blue-collar crime than white, as if it is worse than the other when often it isn't any worse. Although the crime sounds bad when SIX people are involved, is it any better when one person alone rapes and murders their victim? In various parts of the world, forgiveness has been trialled as retribution for the crime, in various ways, and with various levels of success. Retribution is supposed to consist of penalty AND rehabilitation. Rotting in gaols for finite times is fine for penalty, but often neglects rehabilitation. There is only so much that can be done, but there is also so much that is often not done at all. Is it better to have a productive member of society that has been rehabilitated, or someone gaoled indefinitely at the cost to the taxpayer of around $500/day (I think it may even be more than that, and of course I'm talking about Canberra's gaol the "A.M.C.").
This might sound weird but...
I think it SHOULD be punishable by death...but I don't want it to be punishable by death. The crime of rape is heinous; it scars a victim emotionally [sometimes physically] for the rest of their lives. The only fitting punishment for such individuals who gleefully and sadistically partake in rape SHOULD be death because their kind aren't worth the resources we'd spend on them to be in prison. Same goes with murderers. But I don't want it punishable by death simply because I trust no government to be able to make the call of guilty with 100% accuracy and therefore I don't want to be an accomplice to murder of an innocent...since this IS a representative democracy I live in. Or, at the least, I want to mitigate how many times I am... So yes. Rapists deserve to be put to death. But I don't trust the government to make that call.
I am against the death penalty in all cases.

The 'waist of bullets' is a legitimate concern. Even though we don't actually shoot anyone when we execute them, we do have to spend a lot more executing them than we would have to spend keeping them imprisioned for the rest of their life. We have to pay to keep them separate from general population while in prison, we have to hire extra guards and pay for extra utilities to cover the area where they're being kept separate. We have to pay for them to get lawyers and appeal their trial and sentencing and everything. All those costs add up. I'm not fond of prison work, though. Corporations are constantly looking for ways to get cheap labor and prison labor might be their best option. They can claim they're creating American jobs by hiring prisoners to work for them, but their workforce will make just $2.00 an hr. What's more, I'm hearing about prisons putting prisoners in telemarketing or other telephone sales positions. I don't exactly feel comfortable with the idea of people having to give out personal information to convicts like that.

They should pay a somewhat reasonable wage that is held in trust until their release. |
