Rape is one of the worst crime because of the amount of damage that you do to someone else for basically the gain of getting off. If we had a way of guaranteeing that we got the correct person each time, then yes I'd be in favor of the death penalty. The problem is that rape is also the crime for which the most people are exonerated for. I don't know what goes into the sick mentality of falsely reporting rapes but it is a huge problem so you couldn't possibly have the consequences be the death penalty.

I don't mean to side track the discussion too much but if you are in favor of life in prison then you are in favor of the death penalty. Life in prison is sentencing someone to death with 40 years of confinement first.

I am against the death penalty primarily because I don't trust the system which decides who should receive it.

If we could be absolutely certain of apprehending the correct people, then has anyone already suggested torture? A life time of being butt fucked in jail and dismemberment were good suggestions. Going after the balls instead, in addition to cutting down future sex drive, also offers the prospect of greater pain.

New poll: should the victims of rape be offered the option of taking a hammer to their assailant's testicles? If so, should this be done publicly?

Of course. Because only males are capable of rape towards others...

Given that rape accusations, proceedings and what we know already of the frequency of false rape claims, as well as the incredible expense in carrying someone into Death Row, which is already overburdened with the likes of spree killers and egregious murderers, I would level the charge at you that you only advocate "yes" out of special privilege for your gender and your biased assumptions.

One of the worst crimes? Why don't we decide everything on emotion alone then??

Life sentences can be commuted to shorter terms (it happened in Australia that every life sentence was reduced in the 70's I believe, though the date may be wrong on that one).

Also death penalty is not the same as life in prison... Thinking

Just because you think it is doesn't mean others have to. FYI I'm not fundamentally opposed to the death penalty, but certainly I wouldn't advocate for it in rape cases.

Bullshit. By that logic, giving birth (or getting pregnant) is just sentencing the baby to death after a number of years of life. Dying naturally is a "sentence" that we already carry, so it cannot be imposed on us again by some judge or any other person.

There is a difference between sentencing someone to confinement for the rest of their life, and sentencing someone to an unnatural death by means of execution...a massive difference.

My ''No'' vote takes it to 80.95238% against.

Results out to 2 decimal places on a Yes/No poll.

Yes and no. We ARE talking about the India experience?? Where 5 are charged with rape and murder? I'm with the women of India. Enough is enough.

RE: Death penalty for rapists?
In the grand scheme of things, we have:
- A culture that is often criticized for it's biases against women
- A culture and police force that has a history of not pursuing allegations of sexual assault seriously

And you think a one time event like the above, along with your unthinking reflex towards the death penalty (which, by the way, requires that an investigation comes to trial, something that was broken long before today in India...), will change things for the better?

Is this about change, or simply doling out death to people you'd like to think should be killed while the vast majority escapes with their heinous crimes?

Show me how Indian culture is going to change to even allow for this grand "declaration" of death when the police don't even do their due diligence...
