Because the universe does not differentiate between good people and bad people. There is no omnipotent being that oversees everything. If that were the case it would make any god rather sadistic.

No God>no law, rules >no "good" or "bad" people> just people. Everything happens randomly and chaotic.
If there is God then everybody are bound to karma(reincarnation).
"Good" person commuted crime in previous incarnations and tastes results of those actions in this life. A kid(consciousness/soul in young body) done horrible things in previous incarnations and now he suffers the consequences in form of cancer.
Once again if no God and karma then you endup whit human body(bag of chemicals) that experiences random shit and words like good, bad, innocent, love, happiness are baseless.

I guess this way of thinking has its roots in our primitive desire to acredit spirits with natural phenomena. I'm reminded of the story of Persian King Xerxes who, in 500 BCE, built a pontoon out to sea. When the rough waves destroyed that pontoon he sentanced the sea to 300 lashes. It seems we still have the same urges to blame nature when bad things happen.

Nonsense.

Nonsense. Once again chemical bag, our body, us can't be called good, bad or even innocent we just are random and chaotic just like our experience (world whit no God).
If there is God then what author of the topic asks about a law of cause and effect where good, innocent people get horrible events. Karma explains everything. For example why young kid born and dies in Africa in young age from hunger. Karma version: crimes(sins), food, water waste theoretically can result in Africa and death from hunger.
Other version: random chaotic meaningless events...

In the world whitout God there is no divine justice! Like for example some one commited crimes, police didnt catch him but "fate" make so he gets gets punishment in other form then jail. Police, army is only justice. If God/soul/karma is denied then you are left only whit soulless chemicals that after sometime turn to dust and justice, bad, good are delusional the same way as consciousness that sees to exist after death(no soul/consciousness version).

Bad things happen, there has to be a reason why they happen. Immature thinking. Welcome to the real world, son.
You can't accept the fact that maybe bad things don't happen to people for a specific reason. A kid dies in Africa because he was born into an awful area of the world where he can't get food or water. And that's that.
Grow up, will you?

More nonsense. Why nosense? For soulless chemicals there is no such things as good, bad or "justice of fate". Those things only possible theoretically whit God who would sustain and control our fate/karma.
Other version is chaotic, random movements of chemicals. Justice is as "magic" as God. You can't separate them.
