So, god gave you a wakeup call for false practices, but others who seek him just as earnestly but falsely get nothing and end up losing their faith and going to hell? Well, aren't you the teacher's pet.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Those 'non-heeders' sound purdy smart.

You are a classic example of the adage "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" Drippy.
Why don't you read Dawkins' "The Greatest Show on Earth" and then get back to us in 25 years when you finally understand it? RE: HIV patients told by Pentecostal pastors 'to rely on God'

Drippy, let me give you the correct mental strategy, adapted to your level of intellect, for how to approach evolution. Think of evolution as god. Think of evolution as working in mysterious ways, think of evolution as omnipresent and always working even if with your intellect you have no hope of ever grasping where and how, think of evolution as something you just have to accept, because its workings, although comprehensible to persons of normal intellect, is just supernaturally beyond your grasp. You can do at least that, can't you? Now burn the bible and go read origin of species. It is full of divine wisdom beyond your understanding. But if you perform the proper penitence and go through the sort of mental contortions to convince yourself it is true despite limits of your intellect, the true god Darwin will command his angels, that is us, to come onto you and pretend you are some one worth talking to. May Darwin bless you. RE: HIV patients told by Pentecostal pastors 'to rely on God'

A polar bear needs thick insulation to survive in an arctic climate. If you transport a polar bear to a tropical climate, it will have to adapt many of its habits to survive, and if it reproduces (ostensibly with other, similarly-afflicted polar bears), attributes such as coloration and insulation will necessarily alter over generations to better suit the environment. This produces polar bears much less capable of surviving polar climates, not only because certain attributes making life possible in the arctic are a drawback in the tropics, but because the bears will have to come up with a different diet which is probably much lower in fat and, therefore, unable to sustain fatty insulation anyway. That's how evolution works. It can also be the result of a random mutation which leaves the organism more vulnerable in some way, but because they are lucky enough not to face the specific threat, they may pass on a lack of protection for several generations, adapting to its absence. Which may come back to hurt it later if the threat really isn't gone. Evolution does not necessarily produce improvements all the time, nor are all of its adaptations beneficial or guaranteed to work. Evolution is far more complicated than you obviously think. |
