They do not look like they're underfire to me. Or do you not know what a fox hole is? Those guys look like they work 'in the rear with the gear' where people can still afford to deny God. (Note the big High wall behind them and the gate.) Again a base is not a fox hole.

You're not insulting atheists, you're insulting soldiers. Soldiers will stick by the others and fight until the end if need be. It's a code. It's their duty. No member of the U.S. military (or any military for that matter) would skip town on their task because they're afraid to die because they don't believe in your god. Religious belief is irrelivant to their jobs. The picture proves that atheists can serve their country and face death for their country just as much as Christians can.

You're too cold and ignorant to understand that, I'm sure.

I almost died when I was a boy. so yes i am aware.

Quote:My case was not typical. The day after Christmas, I started getting sick. I thought it was the flu. A week later, I went to the emergency room, they told me, yes, it's influenza, they gave me a couple of bags of IV fluids (I was badly dehydrated), and they sent me home a few hours later. There's not much they can do for influenza except let it run it's course (unless they can administer an antiviral within 48 hours of the first symptoms. It was too late for that.). They told me it would probably get worse before it got better, and that I might be sick for another couple of weeks.

I got progressively worse. I couldn't eat, I couldn't sleep, I had trouble breathing, I was delirious. About the 12th day, I begged my best friend to kill me (no, I am not joking). On the 14th day, I was taken back to the emergency room. Shortly after arriving, I had to be intubated and put on a ventilator so that I could breathe as my blood oxygen levels were dangerously low and if they didn't do it, it would be a race between drowning in my own fluid and systemic organ failure. When they intubate, it's common practice to put the patient into an induced coma to prevent them from attempting to remove the breathing tube, which is what they did. I had no expectation that I would ever awaken - as far as I knew, the moments before I drifted off were the last moments of consciousness that I would ever experience. Obviously, I did wake up, nearly a week later.

Close enough for you? Rhetorical question, really, I couldn't care less.

Now where would you be if there was no hospital to go to, and your condition was to drag out for weeks months or even years of slow deliberate suffering??

There is a big difference between dying relitivly quickly, than being made to sit and think about it for years all the while your whole life and relationships change.

after I tested positive I was treated as a leper, by not only my friends but my family as well. I was corden off and seperated from everything that made my life worth living. It's not only the physical death that taunts you. It the death of every aspect of your life. who you were all that you are is also dead/dying. So you get to spend a great deal of time mourning that as well. If you die quickly of a socially acceptable disease your legacy, lives on. Your people still stand behind and support you. If you died of Aids (20 years ago at least) You died, long before your body surcuumbs to whatever infection that winds up killing you. It is not just death that has people cry out to God. It is this slow agnoizing death of everything you are/were, and then adding insult to injury you have your physical death (probably by something like pneumonia) to look forward to.

When I went through this AIDS was a soul crushing way to die. There was no hope, at least for poor people.

Goal-post shifter engaged.

The ends don't justify the means, which is something both you and your god don't seem to understand.

I have not force anything on you. I simply offered to put you on a path that I myself have already been down. Which has me ask, how do you know the 'ends do not justify the means?" Do you know what the 'ends' are? have you been made aware of the means?

If someone could simplify this whole process and boil it down to a simple premise, it would look something like this: What if it could be offered to you complete access to God? Meaning you have the ablity to interact, speak with, and have anything you put effort into play out as you intend, so long as you follow a loose set of guide lines He has set before you? However the only cost is you have to give yourself completely over to God. Meaning whatever you hold most dear, you must be willing to give up. Not that you have to, but in your mind/heart you must be willing to hand over whatever is asked of you. Would you do it? Why? or why not?

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure that was very frightening.

Shifting goalposts noted. Your criteria included days or weeks.

Oh, if only you knew my current medical condition, you'd realize what a stupid fucking thing to say this is.

Or maybe the oppsite is true. Maybe it hurts you to think that all of that pride we spend while we are well that says their is no God, goes out the window when we face certain death.

Seriously who among you does not plan to do a 'death bed confession' just to cover your bases when/if you are given the chance?

You're here telling us every day, so yes, I understand the ends. And I have been made aware of the means from your posts.

How do you know I have not?

I tried to kill myself, and my last conscious thoughts were "if there is a god, I'm going to meet him."

No base covering there.

Now, feel free to shift the goal-posts or denigrate any experience I've had without knowing anything about me. Whatever it takes to cling to your belief, I know you'll do it. Just know that it doesn't amount to anything to me.

My last conscious thought would be "I would never have to deal with god nonsense again".
