The Old Testament was referring to Bronze Age Hebrews who went of to worship Baal so it wouldn't apply to Christians or modern Jews. It does sort of still apply to Muslims, at least in the Islamic countries.

Whether they worshiped Baal or Bobo the clown is not the point.
