And Hells come back to haunt me

That doesn't mean it makes sense, it just means that you're more comforted by the prospect given the realities of the universe. To which I say: tough luck. You might not like the way things are, but that doesn't make any moves toward proving your afterlife theory, and "what makes sense," isn't in any way a measure of what's true to begin with, because you don't know everything, and could be suffering from an emotional reaction to a complex issue... among other things.

Besides, things can still matter; I've never understood this fear that christians have of selecting meaning on their own, and not being told what's meaningful by a dusty old book.

Unfortunately, the universe cares not for the desires of human beings and their need to have everything "ultimately matter."

What you have basically said is that the afterlife makes sense, because that's how you want things to be. Besides, just because nothing you've deemed important won't be important in a trillion years doesn't mean that stuff isn't still important now.

Personally, I find it amusing that you feel no need to ever justify your alternate readings. As if we should just take your word for it.

Atheists generally go one step further than you do: they don't take any of it literally. I think it might be a contributing factor to being an atheist in the first place Wink

I still find it amusing that you claim to have a working heuristic that you utilize in order to discern which parts should be taken literally and which parts shouldn't. And yet, it differs so drastically from so many of the other 30,000 sects of Christianity. And you all claim to have the truth.

Unfortunately, it doesn't lead to good stuff. It leads to: wars, witch burning, slavery, praying for children to get better instead of taking them to the hospital, the teaching of pseudoscience in public schools...

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Proof of claim?

Which one?

Don't worry about hell. It's really not that bad. Bitches be walking around naked, dudes can always 'get it up', no one has an unwanted pregnancy, marriages last forever. You're punished for your sins...., but only the ones you'd commit over and over, which also tend to be the most pleasurable

Oh, and we got this awesome Coit AC unit installed that NEVER breaks!!!

On a side note, I'd be more prone to give ANY religion at least a little credence if they could find evidence in anything other than their bible (or equivalent) and religious texts...

Because the proof that exists for the opposition (NO GODS) can be found in many books, many subjects, many people, countries.... it can be found literally everywhere.

You should seriously consider reevaluating that viewpoint.

We can safely add thermodynamics to the list of things you don't understand as well.
