Well, here's this atheist's response: rape is bad because, from both a psychological and evolutionary standpoint, we are social animals, and for us, "survival of the fittest," includes a social component that is necessary for our survival. The fittest humans are the ones that can inculcate such social desires, because they allow us to build stable societies in which our predators cannot harm us so easily, and in which our interlocking lives create vastly more comfortable and convenient lives for all.

Rape is demonstrably harmful to the person being raped, and if we were to allow it to run rampant, it would provide a negative impact to society, not least of which by turning each and every one of us to a potential enemy, with an act that isn't policed or punished. If your empathy isn't enough of a reason (and I'm amused, Sleepy, that you see nothing wrong with rape other than that Allah doesn't like it) then the demonstrable negative impacts, both on a personal and societal scale, is.

I think harming women in order to get sex is wrong because I've got empathy, I've been hurt before and from experience I didn't like it I wouldn't want anyone harming any of my relatives in order to have sex with them.

In terms of evolution the human race benefits from not raping women because our courtship rituals encourage competition in intelligence, social skills and the ability to make money as sexual selection in humans is usually based on these features.

Try wearing a hijab and you will see the social atmosphere around you change. You won't be judged for how ugly or pretty you look, if you go to an interview you'll be seen for your qualifications instead of being hired because somebody thinks you look good. So for me, it will do the opposite of what you suggest. It's not like it covers my face. Plus I like people seeing my beautiful hair. It's lush.
