I don't think he missed any "facts" at all. At worst, he missed some myths and superstitions. Regardless... I stand in awe of Sam Harris' eloquence and clarity of thought.

But... I got no problem with ya, StrongWaters. (As long as you keep your beliefs out of my face, our government and our schools.)

I get what you are saying, but what responsibility do bankers have for intentionally funding both sides of war? What responsibility do we have in society for condoning the murder of children who are denied the voice to choose life? I am pro child's choice first, then pro woman's choice second. The scapegoat for war is often named as religion, but this is contrary to Christians religion. It is not contrary to human nature and human nature happens for us all equally. No need to pick a group to hate here other than those who willfully go against evident natural laws that we can all rationally and logically reveal with simple common sense.

As far as I'm concerned the fact that the Holy Scriptures don't try to sugarcoat things makes it all the more compelling.

Meaning, he has no problem with you so long as you don't actually practice your religion. What a prick.

No. There's a difference between practicing a religion, and trying to enforce your religion.

My religion says it is wrong to lie, cheat, and steal. Are you suggesting that I give people a pass on those?

Stealing tends to be illegal in any society. Lying not so much, and cheating depends on the circumstances. You're free to believe what you want, as our constitution allows everyone the right to their religion, or lack thereof. It's just not right to try to pass laws that solely benefit christianity. Don't try to strangle science and education just because the things scientists learn about reality doesn't fit snuggly into the biblical beliefs.

The Bible can speak for itself on what true religion represents.

James 1

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

This reveals the prejudice of Sam on the issue. Religion is not every religion, no more than guns kill people.

I think the suggestion is that you could probably make a case for why those things are bad that extends beyond "magic man says not to." And that if you can't, it says more about you than it does those without religion.

You nailed it, Chad. You can practice to you're heart's content. Just so long as you keep out of my face, our government and our public schools.

(First time anybody has called me a prick on these forums. It's a good day!)

Just so long as that means you're actually admitting that your religion is a hostile, autocratic theocracy that has, at its center, the forcible insinuation of your own practices into every facet of life, heedless of the beliefs of the people around you, Chad. Rolleyes
