Can someone rationally and logically explain why this is...well...ok, and righteous? Especially when it came from a God who issued the commandment "thou shall not kill?"
I mean, fuck, I thought that the worst thing that happened regarding a census involved fava beans and a nice chianti.
Thou shalt not kill is not the command. The command is you shall not murder. The difference? The death of a human being has no intrinsic 'moral' value before God. (Nor does the act in of itself in society.) After all our deaths are our births into eternity. So from God perspective death is not the sin people without God make it out to be.
Which means if God want to order the death of 70,000 people then He has the authority and right to do so.
So what is murder and why can't we do that? Murder is the unsactioned taking of life. It is the willful taking of human life by a person who do not have the right and authority to do so. This is also the way society views death as well.

Told you
"Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken."

Yep, you have to start with the premise that God is good. As long as you maintain that you can explain away anything.
What can be interesting is asking a Christian "How do you know God is good"? The answer tends to be along the lines of faith, or "It's in his nature", or "you can't judge God". If you judge God by his own biblical morals then he is not good, which creates a problem.
More reasonable would be to believe in a slightly flawed God, after all we are flawed and supposedly in his image. It would sort out a lot of bible plot problems. However most people don't want to worship a flawed immoral God.

What do you think your options are? To not believe in a myth.

Once again Drippy demonstrates the monumental dickishness of religion.
You do have a purpose, Drippy. You serve as the Bad Example.

How do we know God is good? Because good is a standard of measure based on God. It is not independent of God. To have a standard independent of God, is to have a personal standard of righteousness apart from God. Or as Jesus identified it a "self righteousness."

The recent deluge of 'Christian Explain' threads all seem a little Sophomoric. Bears, towers, scars, etc. Can't we have a bit of fun with this?
Why don't we explore God's city siege tactics? Lop off the tip of your dick, march around town 7 times and blow some horns. Works every time.

My prophetic ability is almost mystical. Cower before me.
Drich, as I said on page one, this argument is only relevant or logically consistent from within the tautological loop. I can see where it works for you but really, is there any value at all to offering it to people OUTSIDE the loop?

On a scale of 1 to 10, how functional do you think it is for you?
