Christians, please justify this for me
January 20, 2014 at 6:28 pm
I believe in 1 Chronicles God killed around 70,000 people because David ordered that a census be taken.
Can someone rationally and logically explain why this is...well...ok, and righteous? Especially when it came from a God who issued the commandment "thou shall not kill?"
I mean, fuck, I thought that the worst thing that happened regarding a census involved fava beans and a nice chianti.

Oh lord. Another one. Well, at least no caps.
Sorry Boris, no. Not with an answer which would satisfy you anyway. No more than for the bears, lots wife or the rest.
It's like this. If you believe in the God of the bible, he is good by definition. He defines what good is, so any OTHER morality is evil, simply because it's different from Gods. Thus ask any true Christian tm you'll get a variation on that answer.
If you Don't believe the bible to be literally and inerrant true, like all atheists and some Christians, it's a moot point because it probably never even happened, at least not like that.
Thus these types of questions are always futile because the justice argument is circular and thus inexplicable to people outside the loop.

I guess that just leads to the much-repeated question, "how can anyone believe and dedicate themselves to a God of that nature?"

Because they start believing before they are aware of those "events".
Once they're made aware of those "events" the belief is well rooted and so rationalization kicks in.
Might makes right, in this case.
Moves in mysterious ways.
All good, blah blah blah.
Then you have those that didn't have their belief so well rooted, like jacob here and other people who even become atheists...

I think you're pretty close to it, though, since you said that you don't believe in the basis of Christianity (your own words).

Maybe not while you're alive... but we'll have to see.

Close, but no cigar. Not yet. I'm still going with the faith of functionality. I don't believe whisky is good for me either, but I still drink it.

Oblique comment (has bugger all to do with the topic):
Q: How did Darth Vader know what Luke was getting for Christmas?
A: He said, 'Luke, I have felt your presents.'
(the above was emailed to me by a nephew)
