Christian Myths and Atheists Lies

Christian Myths and Atheists Lies
In this thread we will explore the lies and myths many atheists have unwittingly been indoctrinated into accepting. Lies and myths with no basis in fact or truth, lies and myths they passively accept and pass along amongst each other and their new converts. Lies and myths they snobbishly believe makes them more educated than Christians and other religious believers. Lies and myths that show they are victims of disinformation and distortion more than any believer.
With that let us begin

1. Christians are against education

One of the biggest lies perpetuated by atheists. It takes only a modicum of reading and intelligence to realize Christians founded Yale Harvard and Princeton, in fact most of the educational system of the United States was established by Christians.

2. Christians are against science

Many and in fact most scientists have been Christian. Here's a list of 10 I can post the names of at least 30 more influential Christian scientists with the bat of an eye

Nicole Oresme c. 1320-1382 inventor of scientific graphic techniques
Nicholas of Cusa 1401-1464 grappler with infinity
Georgias Agricola 1495-1555 founder of metallurgy
John Philoponus late 6th Century Aristotle's early Christian critic
Hugh of St. Victor c. 1096-1141 theologian of science
Robert Grosseteste c. 1168-1253 reform-minded bishop-scientist
Roger Bacon c. 1220-1292 Doctor Mirabiles
Dietrich von Frieberg c. 1250-c. 1310 the priest who solved the mystery of the rainbow
Thomas Bradwardine c. 1290-1349 student of motion
Johannes Kepler 1571-1630 discoverer of the laws of planetary motion
Johannes Baptista van Helmont 1579-1644 founder of pneumatic chemistry and chemical physiology

3. Christians believed the world was flat

The myth that Christians in the Middle Ages thought the world was flat was given a massive boost by Andrew Dickson White's weighty tome The Warfare of Science with Theology. This book has become something of a running joke among historians of science and it is dutifully mentioned as a prime example of misinformation in the preface of most modern works on science and religion.
He finds himself grudgingly admitting that Clement, Origen, Ambrose, Augustine, Isodore, Albertus Magnus and Aquinas all accepted the Earth was a globe - in other words none of the great doctors of the church had considered the matter in doubt.
What can be stated categorically was that a flat Earth was at no time ever an element of Christian doctrine and that no one was ever persecuted or pressurised into believing it.

1. Christians are against education

Who says atheists think that Christians are against education? In fact, Christians probably want to educate the younger generation as much, and perhaps more than most. Isn't this the way you spread your superstition and guarantee a fresh new batch of converts?

2. Christians are against science

All of the names you mention here were around or well before the time of the enlightenment. This was a time when it would have been foolhardy to say the least to argue against doctrine and to declare yourself as a non-believer.

3. Christians believed the world was flat

Most atheists are aware that scholars and the educated, throughout the ages, accepted that the world was a sphere. The Bible does however make many references to and strongly implies that the Earth is flat.

Christians in general are not totally against education they are only against any form of education that contradicts their beliefs. The most popular case of this is that of Galileo Galilei for supporting Copernicanism and its belief in heliocentrism. For this he was tried by the inquisition and forced to recant his most famous work and spent the rest of his life under house arrest.

2. "Christians are against science"

Not impressed at all with the list of Christian scientists you have provided, I am sure if any of us wanted to we could compile a list of atheist scientists as well. Again this goes back to my first reply that Christians are against any type of education when it contradicts their doctrines and beliefs.

3. "Christians believed the world was flat"

This atheist never made or even thought of this last statement.
There is nothing people will not maintain when they are slaves to superstition

By 'many' do you mean 'few'? I don't think I could find many atheists who would agree with the blanket statements you offer in your post.

Quote:Lies and myths with no basis in fact or truth, lies and myths they passively accept and pass along amongst each other and their new converts.
Passively accept?!? Most of us spent years passively accepting the claims of religion; we're not about to do that again anytime soon.

Quote:Lies and myths they snobbishly believe makes them more educated than Christians and other religious believers.
Well firstly it isn't these particular lies and myths that make us believe we are more educated, nor is my belief that we are more educated snobbish. It's based on scientific studies which all show that religiosity and IQ are strongly negatively correlated.

Quote:Lies and myths that show they are victims of disinformation and distortion more than any believer.
You guys believe in an all-powerful all-knowing being who can't be seen yet saved the sins of humankind by coming up with a needlessly complex method even though this being supposedly could have done it instantaneously. Your Bible has been subject to change, reinterpretation, and general distortion for millennia, and you think we are the ones who are the victims of disinformation and distortion?

You can't be serious about this can you? It doesn't take much awareness at all to be aware that the public school system is a bastion of secular indoctrination. Your response on this matter cannot be taken seriously at all...therefore I won't

2. Christians are against science

So you're seriously trying to tell us that the fathers of scientific thought and research are less significant and have less impact on shaping world history than those who came after them benefited off of their work? Wow! Anything to perpetuate a myth I supposeThinking

Meanwhile here are some more

Francesco Maria Grimaldi 1618-1663 discoverer of the diffraction of light Catholic
Blaise Pascal 1623-1662 mathematical prodigy and universal genius
Robert Boyle 1627-1691 founder of modern chemistry
John Ray 1627-1705 cataloger of British flora and fauna Calvinist (denomination?)
Isaac Barrow 1630-1677 Newton's teacher
Antonie van Leeuwenhoek 1632-1723 discoverer of bacteria
Niels Seno 1638-1686 founder of geology

3. Christians believed the world was flat

No matter what you think the bible implies if Christians did not interpret it as such then it cannot be laid at our faith as a biblical truth

Christian theologians, almost without exception accepted the fact that the earth is a sphere. The only two Christian writers known to have advocated a flat earth were a 4th-century heretic, Lactantius, and an obscure 6th-century Egyptian Monk, Cosmas Indicopleustes. Later, these two obscure and uninfluential writers were used as the prime evidence to prove that the flat-earth view was accepted by the Church as a whole—or at least by large parts of it. The myth that the Church ‘condemned as heretics all who claimed that the earth was round’ was ‘invented by two fabulists working separately: Antoine-Jean Letronne, an anticlerical 19th-century Frenchman, and Washington Irving. The 19th-century American writer Washington Irving was actually the first major promulgator of the flat-earth myth. In his very unreliable biography of Columbus, titled History of the Life and Voyages of Christopher Columbus (1828), Irving wrote that it was the flat-earth believing churchmen who vehemently opposed Columbus’ plan to travel to the Indies on the grounds that his ship would fall off the edge of the earth while attempting to sail across the Atlantic.

Cahill, T., Mysteries of the Middle Ages: The Rise of Feminism, Science, and Art from the Cults of Catholic Europe, Nan A. Talese/Doubleday, New York, p. 224, 2006.

In fact, those who opposed Columbus not only knew the earth was a sphere, but also had a good idea of how large it was—and this was the major reason why they opposed Columbus. Columbus and his men were not afraid of falling off the earth as Irving claimed, but of traveling so far from land in an unknown part of the world. They did not know the American continent existed, and, for this reason, Columbus’ critics correctly believed that a voyage to the Far East would take far too long and cost way too much.
Jeffrey Burton Russell, ref. 33, p. 52.

You've made plans for next week, next month and next year based on a future you can't see and thing called time that only exists as a concept and you actually believe you're pragmatic?

You guys claim to "believe" in science and then patently ignore the basic law of cause and effect and you still have the gall to call yourselves scientific or even educated?

That's not even intelligent!!!ROFLOL

Atheist Myths and Christian Lies
In this thread we will explore the lies and myths many Christians have unwittingly been indoctrinated into accepting. Lies and myths they snobbishly believe makes them more educated than atheists and other non believers. Lies and myths that show they are victims of disinformation and distortion more than any non-believer.
With that let us begin

1. Atheists can't dance.

One of the biggest lies perpetuated by Christians. It takes only a modicum of reading and intelligence to realize Atheists founded the electric slide, the macarena and that Soulja Boy dance that everyone was doing around 2 years back. You know, that one where he goes "Supaman that hooo!". I digress. In fact, most of the contemporary dances of the United States were established by Atheists.

2. Atheists are against honeybadgers

Many and in fact most honeybadgers have been atheist. Here's a list of 3 I can post the pictures of at least 30 more influential atheists honeybadgers with the bat of an eye

3. Atheists believed the moon was made of cheese

The myth that atheists, in a drug induced high, thought the moon was made of cheese was given a massive boost by Adobe's plucky little jpeg editing software known as Photoshop. This program has become something of a running joke amongst the photo editing community and it is dutifully mentioned as a prime example of misinformation in the preface of most modern works on the moon and its composition.

- in other words none of the great atheists of the world had considered the matter in doubt.
What can be stated categorically was that a cheese moon was at no time ever an element of atheist doctrine and that no one was ever persecuted or pressurised into believing it.

RE: Christian Myths and Atheists Lies
Re, education. We have more than our fair share of faith schools here in the U.K. ramming their ideology down our childrens throats, I should know as I had to send my children to them.

Also, why on earth did you think I was dismissing the achievements of the scientists you mentioned? I was merely pointing out why they all seem to be christian. If they had been born into todays society I doubt if they would be. You only have to look at the current crop of the worlds leading scientists to realise that.
