I actually counted those parts of earth in my initial post, which is actually more telling of how completely untuned this shit really is. And frankly, I think I agree with Napo too: 95% does seem like I lowballed it. Tongue

Add time into the equation and of the 4.5 billion years that the planet has existed it is only in the last 300 million years that there has been enough oxygen on the planet to support us.

Of course if we were to look at the whole universe its more like 1 * 10^-20% of the thing - probably rather less.

You know you're in for a massive disappointment when someone states "atheism destroyed with . . . " .

At first you expect something deep and profound and then get nothing but oft-repeated nonsense.

I'll keep looking for the profound in such questions, but I doubt I'll ever get anything but disappointment . . .

Raises some good point and makes me wonder why atheists reject the fine tuning of the universe. There's even an article by Dr. Kaku on the fine tuning of the universe titled "The Paradox of Multiple Goldilocks Zones or "Did the Universe Know We Were Coming?" on bigthink.

And by fine tuned I presume you've drawn this conclusion after existing on an insignificant piece of rock that accounts for an infinitesimally tiny % of the total universe, 99.9999999999999999999% of which we will probably never physically see.

Good story bro, tell it again?

Because an all-powerful being would not be so constrained as to be forced to "fine-tune" anything. But it does raise an interesting question- if the creator was so exacting in his design of the universe and the laws of physics, why did he do such a colossally awful job when it came to making sentient beings?

Good point. A universe in which life can exist naturally is the only kind of universe where an omnipotent being needs to be brought in to explain the existence of life. An omnipotent being could have us living anywhere it wanted and our ability to survive would be a profound mystery. Instead, we live only in places conducive to life.

If God, even the weak anthropic principle no longer applies.

So, do you still think this is a question that's hard for atheists to answer?

They usually aim at everything, except giving concrete evidence for their god. Talk about a near-sighted kamikaze pilot.

When I see a thread title making promises like that, it creates in me certain expectations that have yet to be disappointed.
