Faith in Humanity
What does it mean when a person says they have lost faith in humanity? I honestly have no idea... what do you lot think? Smile
Please give me a home where cloud buffalo roam
Where the dear and the strangers can play
Where sometimes is heard a discouraging word
But the skies are not stormy all day

RE: Faith in Humanity
I think it's a realisation of your vast over-estimation of mankinds compassion, intellect or something similar. It's a daunting moment in which you think to yourself "how the hell are we ever going to sort out these problems when people are still thinking/acting that way O.o"

I guess it could be likened to having your optimism about the future torn to shreds in front of your eyes when you realise how much humanity on a large scale epic fails. It's a very George Carlin-esque moment when you say "okay, this isn't gonna go anywhere, I give up and have no stake in the outcome of this mess. Do what you want, I'm out"

I agree with this description completely, but wouldn't saying "I give up and have no stake in the outcome of this mess...I'm out" basically be adding to the already deteriorated state of things? It's like saying "I give up because everyone else gave up."

Hello sae. How are ya?Big Grin

I think it's pretty much about your view on humanity as a whole. Based on what you have seen and heard. Your view on humanity and it's intellect could be effected by humans and their lack of compasion/care for others. Racism, discrimination and corruption. Fellow human beings letting other human beings suffer from starvation, lack of health treatment, lacking in housing and destroying habitats. I have a low view on humanity's intellect based on it's oil used, war, discrimination and the destruction of life. However I have some faith in human intellect when fellow human beings witness suffering and actually care. I don't have much faith on humanity. Probably because I've seen too much villainy, corruption ect, ect. I don't see too much kindness/compasion. I see some but not alot. So my faith in humanity is very low at the moment.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

I prefer to think positively and of reasons to have a faith in humanity restored. It's a positive statement about the potential observed amid the usual dross.

Personally, I haven't lost all faith in humanity just yet, so I still maintain my stake in the outcome of things. My comment above was really just an illustration of what it would feel like when you've completely and utterly lost all hope that anything will ever get better and ultimately give in. It can't be a great place to be Tongue

"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post
