I have an iPod my father bought me several years ago that I use for when I work out, because my phone's battery is shite and I haven't found a music app I like. I'm hoping when I upgrade to the HTC this will change. Other than that, we're a strictly google/android house.

I'm writing this on a dual boot laptop (Ubuntu and Windows) and spend eight hours of my day on a Mac.

It's nice to see that one of the organizations I source my software from is negatively responding to lunatics.

I'm a bit more cynical. Apple has a rep for being for lefty hipster arts students right? What better way to pander to them than this? The fact that I'm hearing about this now, that it has become news, speaks volumes.

You may think they are doing the right thing regard the environment, whatever, I have doubts as to whether they do the right thing for the right reasons however.

I somewhat agree. Apple is the brand that appeals to young, cool, liberal hipster types as a marketing model and I agree with you about being cynical and thinking this may be as much about appealing to their customer base as "doing the right thing" but I also somewhat don't care.

If they're doing this for "the right reasons" then fantastic.

If they're doing this to appeal to their customers and make money then that's typical corporate greed, but it's still corporate greed that's doing a good thing for the environment.

If they're doing it for some combination of both, or for some not-yet-revealed reason then they're still doing a good thing for the environment.

No matter their ultimate reason for doing it, it doesn't really change the fact that they're taking a stand on an issue that is important and that a majority of people agree is a good thing to do, and they're setting an example for other corporations to follow (for better or for worse, that's what multi-billion dollar corporations do) and in this case they're setting a positive example.
