Could be me being stupid but I can't work out why the quote tags aren't working?

Sometimes different defects result in the same broken display. Sometimes, it's a result of multiple errors (I noticed, before it was fixed, that one of the quote tags was closed with a curly brace instead of a square brace; that would have caused additional problems, or it might have been the main cause [because the quote tags wouldn't have matched in number]).

I'm the one who fixed it. You had a closing tag that was incorrectly formatted like this '[/quote{', and also a mismatched number of opening and closing tags. Either problem can screw up rendering of quotes.

The hardest work a mod has to do...

I once spent half an hour to find an error where the user put a backslash in the closing tag amidst a nest of them. If it wasn't for the staff bar, I'd call this a shitty job.

Yeah, they REALLY can be a rat's nest.

Want to know the secret to making them easier to decipher and make it much easier to fix yourself - and by extension, for us to fix?

Put your opening and closing quote tags on a line by themselves and trim out any unnecessary nested quotes. it makes them far, far easier to spot and get matched up.

I think I can devise a vim script to light up mybb quotes. That could help.
