Godzilla. Figure out what you want to be, movie! If you're not going to be an all out monster movie then write your human characters better. If you want to be a movie about two forces of nature clashing, then stop telling me all about them and let them linger in mystery. If you want to be a disaster movie then be that, but don't try to be all of those things at once. It's just a cock tease.

By the time the finale came around I was sitting in my seat silently hoping that the movie wouldn't cut away to something else again, and just let me enjoy the action. It's great action, looks cool and appropriately weighty, but it's all just... over too fast, including the ending that managed to be both rushed and unbearably slow at the same time. Not to mention cheeseball.

Underneath all the writerly bullshit there's a good movie, but it just employs too many cheap tricks and shitty sleights of hand for me to properly enjoy it. I was so hyped for this one, and though I did like it, I can see the seams of the plot too much to wholeheartedly recommend it.

Damn, I was expecting big things from this... looks like I'll have to settle for the old kaiju movies instead.

It's not outright bad, just average, and it feels like it needed an extra pass of editing before they started filming. Frankly, the trailers feel kind of deceptive now, given what they promise versus what the movie actually gives.

You might like it, just be aware going in that the movie you think you're going to see isn't the one you'll get.

I am looking forward to seeing it tonight, even at the risk of being annoyed. As long as the writing isn't as bad as the '98 debacle I'll be ok; I'm going to see Godzilla fuck shit up.

I'll be interested to see how you react to the way they show Godzilla fucking shit up, then. Because they definitely don't go the well traveled blockbuster path with that.

My family is seeing "Chef" today.

I watched to new Godzilla with my middle son as his birthday treat yesterday.
It seemed to be a straight re-make of a 1960s Godzilla movie with better CGI.
I expected a film with something to say, a wry look at today's society somehow.
What I saw was an excuse to get big things fighting in various cities and that was all.
My son loved it,I did not

50 First Dates was the last movie I watched - I suggested that for my movie night and enjoyed it all over again. Not a deep thinker movie but fun and charming.

So, indeed, we did go to Chef, with Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey, Jr., Sofía Vergara, Dustin Hoffman, and John Leguizamo. I thought it was very good, and it held my attention. My parents minds were completely blown by it. So, while I did like it quite a bit, they saw something special in the movie that I didn't.

X-Men: Days of Future Past

I just saw it yesterday, and absolutely loved it. Right when I was starting to get burnt out on comic movies this ends up being as good as I had hoped. Well, it deviated from the comics, but I got use to all these book to movie changes after the original. I am biased, being a X-Men fan in general, but it was great and up there with First Class, Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Avengers and Winter Soldier...probably my favorite CB right now until I have a second viewing and let the excitement die off. I won't spoil anything and everything, but the way it left off should satisfy a lot of people that weren't too happy with The Last Stand and beyond. It was a little light on an actual X-Men team in the 70's, but it overall worked, and in the next movie I suspect we'll get a full X-Men team based in, I think, the 80's.

Can't wait for mother friggin' Apocalypse!
