And if you are wrong , eternity is a long time.
RE: And if you are wrong , eternity is a long time.
As I've said before, I'm sure I learned from somewhere that Pascal came up with his wager in order to satirise the whole belief thing and it's just stuck; similar to Fred Hoyle's coining of the term Big Bang out of parody doong more to popularise the concept in the public mind than the physics ever could. So, believers, how's it feel to be trolled by the very guy you're citing as an authority on why we should believe?
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

What amuses me is....

"What if the atheists are right" seems never to be considered by theists

Because they have "nothing to lose" if they're wrong. Forgetting all the time, money, and friends that they otherwise could have had without religion.

How many deathbed conversions? How do you know? Is this anecdotal? If so, name names.

the other religions can't even come close to addressing the spiritual needs of an individual and even on the basis of rational thought.

no other religion can do this but Christianity ; and at the same time further the progression of culture and civilization.

sorry bout that, muslims and scientologists , and cow dung consumers

Do you even know the difference between assertions and arguments?

I've sat with people who were dying, both atheists and believers, and I've never witnessed a deathbed conversion. Such claims are just another lie and misinformation from the religious.

are you saying all the billions of believers in the world have no dignity?

and have wasted their valuable time . Time that can't be held on to..

What have you done with all your time . in excess of spent beliefs.

Are all the billions in the world stupid and you're the brilliant one?

How many people agree with you does not have a bearing on whether you're wrong or right. If there were six billion atheists, it wouldn't make it any more or less likely that God is real, but using that for an argument that she's right would be an indication the atheist doesn't know any strong arguments.

He was talking about your claim about many deathbed conversions of atheists, not the Norway thing. Try to keep up.

I volunteer at hospice sometimes, and I'm in great demand as the guy who won't pester you about your soul. I swear, what some of the Christian volunteers do amounts to harassment of the dying.

Quote:The satirical fantasy writer Terry Pratchett had a version of Pascal's Wager in his book titled Small Gods: "Upon his death, the philosopher in question found himself surrounded by a group of angry gods with clubs. The last thing he heard was 'We're going to show you how we deal with Mister Clever Dick around here. . .'"

I love Terry Pratchett.
