the universe won't be around but you will. spiritual being, aka, angels, who were created sometime before the foundation of earth; they were eye-witnesses some 4.5 billions years ago.

Holy crap you actually said something factually correct about science!

I can respect that you believe we all have spirits. I'd personally like that. I can't say you're right, but I can't say you're wrong.

If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

I haven't read this whole thread, but I've read fore and aft extensively. I'm not going to argue about the Big Bang (probably right) because it isn't the point.

The point is that "I don't know how x" (the universe came into being, life started, what makes lightning, why Newton was so smart, fundamentalists won't read science) happened is not proof of god. We don't know, just means, we don't know. It doesn't mean that god did it.

Many things we now know about (lightening, the origins of humans, viruses, etc.) were attributed to gods or demons. Did the gods or demons exist before and then disappear in a puff of science when we found out? No. They never existed at all.

Human ignorance is proof of nothing, including god.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

Human ignorance is however proof of Christianity, although not of Christ.

That's exactly right, Jenny. Once we started investigating these things, we found that [insert pet god here] was conspicuous by its absence. Everything once only explicable by god magic turned out to have measurable, physical explanations. Now the only gap large enough to squeeze a god into is the microsecond 'before' the Big Bang. Whatever may have sparked that event, assuming anything did of course, the only reason to paint a face on it is human wishful thinking.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Actually, to be more specific, neither the world nor your 'spirit' will be around. But the ether gas which animates us all will still be there. That is when the Gremlin Faery King will assemble his minions and establish dominion over all that is eternal and righteous. You can be sure that this is the truth because it was written on gold tablets which were witnessed before being returned to the void. The gremlin faery kind wants you to have faith in him. Sure it would be easy enough for one such as He to send gold tablets to everyone, but that isn't what he wants. He requires a leap of faith for only they who will commit to Him without proof is worthy to sit with Him forever in His heavenly spa. You should be warned though that the holy one is a jealous Gremlin Faery. Unless you renounce your worship of the false idol Jesus your fate will be to serve forever as a bathroom fixture for the heavenly host. Your mouth will be made into a urinal or a commode forever. You will only be fit to receive from His rear end what you would not receive from His loving and merciful mouth. Verily all that I have revealed to you is true. So be saved or piss on you (well in your mouth actually).

Um no they weren't. The Babylonian myth system invented "angels and demons" (which is why the servants of El or El Elyon ... the chief of the council of gods ... have names in many instances that end in "el" ... Micha-el,
Rapha-el etc.), as Dr. Elaine Pagels (Princeton) has written about in "The Origins of Satan".
Every religion is true one way or another. It is true when understood metaphorically. But when it gets stuck in its own metaphors, interpreting them as facts, then you are in trouble. - Joseph Campbell  Popcorn
