Re: the nautilus shell.

Theres really a very simple explanation.

Like many other creatures, the nautilus grows in all directions at once. This means that even as it gets bigger, its shape doesn't change.

So what it needs is a shell that curves in such a way as to preserve the shape of the interior cavity. It turns out that the kind of curve that does this is a logarithmic spiral. Thus there is strong evolutionary pressure for nautiloid shells to take the form of logarithmic spirals.

And I would never claim that the evidence for it was in any way comparable to the evidence for the truth of the Bible.

I was almost certain of my atheism until I discovered that the golden ratio is found in galaxies. I would not try to justify creationism with the golden ratio if it were only found it plants, as that is easily explained by the fact that it's easiest to pack seeds that way. But it is found in the way galaxies are formed. Why would millions of galaxies just so happen to form with the same ratio of size? I would be 100% atheist if I could explain this. Can someone please try and explain it?

There are many phenomenon that atheists can't explain, because it's not our job. Scientists are the ones who make atheism possible, far as I'm concerned.

There are many phenomenon that relgious people can't explain, except to say 'god did it', whereas, science can explain the same phenomenon.

There is a myriad of things we don't know yet. But the ability to test, question, hypothesize, gather data, establish results.... and eventually prove things that are theoretically in existence (remember, gravity is just a theory too)is why we say that we're not sure, but you sure ain't gonna find it in a fucking book, man. We have boundless amounts of data to explain and identify the theory .... that's why we keep searching. We want to know because we know that eventually we will have the information that lets us all know what we thought we knew but couldn't scientifically confirm knowing before.
