Hey everyone! I'm new here, deconverted about a year ago and was wondering: Any safety tips to keep my presence on here secret from my family / other people that use this computer? I use incognito mode in Chrome and frequently clear all browsing data. Call me paranoid, but I want to make sure before getting really active on this forum.

You know what, my parents probably won't be able to figure out that I was on this site even if there was a way. I think I'll just start posting.

We tend to talk, debate, swear and generally have fun.

If you want to keep it a secret from fundy parents or such like there is a "stealth-mode" option in the user control panel. Makes it look like a PC forum.

In order of increasing paranoia:

* Use incognito mode / private browsing mode and / or clear your history.
...on a non-shared user account.
...in conjunction with VPN or an encrypted tunnel if you're really paranoid.
...on a virtual machine
...which is stored on an encrypted volume (I used to recommend TrueCrypt, but that's no longer a viable option).

In your User CP (Control Panel) you can change your preferences.

Click User CP (upper-right of login screen)

Next click Edit Profile (Center left of User CP)

Next, under "Additional Information", the third box down asks if you'd like to enable stealth mode - answer "yes".

That should help.

I don't think that actually does anything useful anymore. Could be wrong.
