In the Hebrew the word is Nephesh it means: The inner being of a man. The seat of Appetites, emotion, and or passion.

In the Greek the word is Psyche, It means the same as it does now.

Not really a problem for atheists, as for the Christers, they need to be VERY familiar with how the Bible describes how souls 'work' and to be ever vigilant they don't mung up the details regarding their beliefs and pronouncements.

Another instance, in other words, of every jot and tittle in the bible being a millstone around the religiousites necks.
