It doesn't matter if you feel you're commenting on their character. You're tying their race into it with the insult. That's racist.

Let me be racially unbiased here, then, in saying that both you and the black people you are talking about are fucking idiots. Oreo means "black on the outside, but white on the inside." It's just about as explicitly racist as a term can possibly be.
Racism
noun
the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
Nobody thinks that "oreo" refers to all members of a race like the word "nigger" or "cracker" does. "Oreo" is a derogatory word directed at a characteristic of an individual and not a characteristic of an entire race. Racism is about characteristics of an entire race so for the word to be racist it has to be something which attempts to make a description about an entire race. The term "nigger" can be applied to all blacks(by a racist person). The term "oreo" can not credibly be applied to all blacks(even by a racist person).

So defining someone as black on the outside and white on the inside isn't assigning characteristics based on skin color?

Negative Faith No More....that is not racist. To be racists the insult has to be directed to the entire race. "Oreo" is an insult directed at specific individuals of a race.

Do you honestly think that people object to the n-word because it is a blanket term? People object to it because it is derogatory, just as you admitted the term "oreo" was. The problem lies when you tie a racial term with intent to be derogatory. There are plenty of other ways to express your feelings about what you think of a person, but when you use a term that references race and use that term to be deragatory, that is racism.

A term can be racist by simply referencing race. It doesn't matter whether it's thrown at one person or a whole group.
You're under the impression that racism simply means generalizing about a race, when it is much, much more than that.

Yes....but remember for it to be racism It has to assign a characteristic which distinguishes the entire race as superior or inferior.

I think the problem with calling someone an oreo is the implication that blacks should think a certain way, and whites should think a certain way, and if you don't fit into those parameters you're doing something wrong. Like when Will calls Carlton an oreo in Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Now sometimes I hear stories of black people saying that slavery was a good thing, and black people shouldn't be in charge, and such. I think that's just them being idiots, more than them trying to be white on the inside while being black on the outside.

Erm..not really..? Saying stupid shit like "All black people like watermelon" or "Asians all wear glasses" isn't a superiortiy/inferiority thing, but it's still stupid and racist.

You are referring to stereotype. Stereotypes are only racist if it distinguishes an entire race as being superior or inferior.
FatandFaithless...are you more attracted to one race over another? If you think white women are more beautiful or that black men are better in bed....you are a racist.
Most if not all people are racist....they are just too dumb to realize it.

Uh, no... again. My personal preference has absolutely no bearing on the entirety of one race or another.
