That's one of the dumbest statements I've read on this forum.

No. There is no atheist spokesperson.
When religious people blindly support someone just because that person shares their faith, I criticize them. Atheists shouldn't support someone just because that person is an atheist either.
Because atheists are human beings, there are good and bad people who make up the population of atheists. It would be silly to support someone based only on the fact that they are an atheist.

Well, thanks for the discussion, but we don't idolize or "adore" people just because they're atheists, that sounds like some creepy theist tendency.

The other, of course, involves orcs.”

I'd rather use a water park slide with razor blades embedded in it than read another Ayn Rand book. I presume in this case 'book' is pronounced in the same way a pre-vomit, anti-peristaltic spasm is?

If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

So basically you say, we should adore someone for sharing a disbelief. Thank you very much, I still choose my role models to suit my own values. And they're certainly not anywhere close to Ayn Rand, who was bigoted enough to think of native populations as savages and who repeatedly let us in on her contempt of needy people.

I have spent the last 12 years rereading Lord of the Rings cover to cover at least once a year.
None of that time has ever felt as wasted as when I slogged through Atlas Shrugged. It's now a point on my dating scale. Do you think this is a good book? Yes? I'm nope'ing the fuck out of this situation NOW.

Clearly you never read 50 Shades of Grey. They come close to each other, but E.L. James couldn't even begin to have as complex of a thought as Ayn Rand, if that tells you anything.

She's an atheist therefore we should respect everything she says.
