Their only reason for putting up religious monuments is to proselytize. Any other monument is considered competition and that will not do.

A while back, some town put up a billboard promoting atheism. Guess who got bent out of shape? They do not want to share. They want complete control.

From what I've seen they want to push the legal boundaries so they can whine about persecution.

that report is from 2013, but it doesn't matter because the UAE still ranks #14 in that poll also, making a place with sharia law just as happy as the secular ones.
