The final straw came in the form of multiple frivolous reports filed in rapid succession, which obviously were only visible to us on the staff. We were in the middle of deliberations on the issue of the Pope thread at the time, leaning toward a potentially more lenient response, but the abuse of the report system- on the back of a history of doing the same, and in the context of what was happening in the public forum- was all we would take.
Fr0d0 has had more chances than anyone else on these boards, as far as I can see, and had been spoken to in private about what the report function is for. Abusive reports aren't a new thing for the guy, and when he decided to use four of them at once to make a rhetorical point, on top of everything else, there's really no other way to take that but as deliberate rule breaking.

The start of a new era dawns upon this forum...
The fourth age is upon us, now that fr0d0 has gone to the Undying lands.
Thou shall be missed.... not a lot...

This was an entertaining read. Hats off to the mods for their effort.

Man, I'm sad to see Fr0d0 go. I don't interact with a lot (any?) of members on here, do to anti-social shyness probably, but I read everything and appreciate all of the contributions. His will be missed. I hope he's able to come back someday.
As for the accusations and criticism being leveled at the moderators, I just don't get it. We're all fucking adults here. Can we act like it? Can we act like we don't need moderators? Seems to me like the green men are here for people who need moderated. Count yourself among them if you want to, but if you can handle yourself, it's like they aren't even there, other than as quality members. If the staff banning log didn't exist, most wouldn't even be aware of the trolls that waltz in; they're so good at the job. Beyond that, there's no reason we can't all just handle our shit.
I hope I don't come off like I don't appreciate the job or the need of the moderators. That's definitely not what I'm trying to say.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:
"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."
For context, this is the previous verse:
"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

I hadn't been following that thread at all so I missed all the excitement. Like I say, sorry to see Fr0d0 go but I still think we have a fabulous staff doing what has to be an aggravating job for little more than a concern to maintain a great forum. I appreciate what you guys do and I really like this place. I'm certain that I would have an even harder time not taking things personally while acting on behalf of the site than any of you. It isn't perfect but its pretty damned good.

Thanks W'ist. We try daily to do what's best for the forum. Believe me, the fr0d0 issue was the hardest one we've had to resolve since I became staff, at least.

I can imagine it was. I can also appreciate how hard it must have been for him. Just sorry that it went to ground through you guys instead of him giving it back to those who deserved it. Ah well, I guess even hobbits are human all too human. There should probably be a warning for theists posting here that they should expect to provoke the anger we feel toward those who foisted religion on us at a vulnerable age. Hopefully he'll enjoy the retirement.

It had nothing to do with him being a theist. If you had treated the board the way he has, you'd be banned too, regardless of your religious views.

It's hard to argue with such an even handed point of view.
I'm a member of multiple forums, with thousands of posts spread about the internet; yet I fail to understand trolls and people who fight rules. (On a watch forum this guy kept posting dick shaped mushroom pics. He probably thought he was pretty cool, I just thought he was an idiot.)
I hardly knew the frodo. Oh well, change is a part of life.
