It seems Yahweh ruled on slavery, and we went against that. I'd like to say we went against genocide too, but that may still be on the table unfortunately. We also disagree with Yahweh's ruling on rape, and we don't execute people for nearly as many reasons than the bible would have us execute people. Though the death penalty is still on the table n some places.
So why is he such a stickler for gay rights?

Because humans will only ignore their holy books when their evolutionary empathy benefits them, but their selfish side allows them to cling to their evolutionary pattern seeking(social norms). Politicians and preachers find that useful to manipulate to keep power.
I just wish we had someone in politics who would make speeches about all the things the bible approves of that we don't anymore, and some things it doesn't approve of that we do. Also that the LGBT community is just the latest in a line of minority groups vying for equality in the "Land of the Free". This isn't anything new.
