Um, noob that I am, isn't the whole point of Tor that admins and mods can't tell it's Tor ?

What isn't apparent is their actual IP and where they are geographically located. (*) It's apparent because posts appear to be coming from all over the world, the IPs of Tor exit nodes is not exactly a mystery, and many of them, when you do a hostname lookup by IP, have 'Tor" as part of the hostname. It isn't usually difficult to tell if someone is using a non-Tor proxy. It's trivial to determine someone is using Tor. Neither of which is against the rules - but it is suspicious if you don't have a reason (e.g. an apostate posting from Iran is a very good reason), and it's especially suspicious if you're trying to give the appearance that you're being cooperative when in fact, you are obstructing. |
