Atheism and Purpose
RE: Atheism and Purpose
The bottom line concerning consciousness is that there is absolutely no evidence, NO evidence, that consciousness exists outside of the brain, or can survive without the brain. Any and all theories concerning consciousness, whether crackpot theory or pretty stories made up by would be experts bear no weight in actual science because the suggestion of consciousness without a body or brain is absurd. Everything we know about consciousness rests within the confines of living brain tissue. There is no evidence, only speculative theories of out of body experiences and eternal consciousness all derived from this archaic and fallacious notion that we are more than what we are.

Theoretical theist that you may be Edward, you still follow the same paths as those who came before you, whatever you believe can be defined by the same rules that govern most theists, and your reasons for believing such things parallel others whose beliefs may far exceed your own in unorthodoxy.

However, calling sciences like physics dead is reaching, far beyond what you should. For theoretical physics to be dead would be to assume that we know everything there is to know about how objects in the universe react with each other. This is far from the truth. We are still children as far as physics go, whatever strides have been made in the last half century still leave us with a lot of questions, and a lot of room left to grow.

You know the only difference between what you believe and the ancient astronauts theorists is that they actually have some compelling evidence to support their wild and irrational conclusions, however after reading through your drabble, I haven't found even the tiniest bit of evidence that supports anything you have said. If your theory is that consciousness will somehow carry us beyond our species existence, you have to provide some evidence that consciousness can exist outside of the body. That would require transferring consciousness, which we cannot do, so your theory, however intruiging i'm sure it is, is more than likely wild speculation atop wild speculation, which is what any good religion is to begin with.

In any event, all of this is moot as it centers around your preconceived notion that we are more than what we are. That our lives and deaths are more than what they are. You'll find no evidence to support either of these claims. Show me any measurable evidence supporting anything that you have said thus far concerning consciousness, and i'll bite on your theory. But only if you can provide something that proves at least partially that consciousness is not a process of the brain, and can survive without it.
"In our youth, we lacked the maturity, the decency to create gods better than ourselves so that we might have something to aspire to. Instead we are left with a host of deities who were violent, narcissistic, vengeful bullies who reflected our own values. Our gods could have been anything we could imagine, and all we were capable of manifesting were gods who shared the worst of our natures."-Me

"Atheism leaves a man to sense, to philosophy, to natural piety, to laws, to reputation; all of which may be guides to an outward moral virtue, even if religion vanished; but religious superstition dismounts all these and erects an absolute monarchy in the minds of men." – Francis Bacon

That's all folks, nothing more to say on this subject.

That's easily one of the dumbest things I've ever read. You sound like you are mixing some kind of twisted freudism in with religion.

I think that slice of bullshit right there confirms it. Ed knows nothing about atheism. He has attacked what he does not know. Congrats, you're an idiot.

Atheism is one thing and one thing only - lack of belief in god(s) existance. Thats it. If you're too thick to understand something as simple as that, then your not worth the bother.

I knew he wouldn't be worth the effort when he said he'll only respond to certain people and posts. He has no interest in a proper discussion and so I question his very pressence here. Why is he here?

He's just another troll to me.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Chill Shell B. Think of it this way - we now know what brain we've been talking to the entire time and can say it is quite unintelligent.

I'm chill, Syn. Smile I have to agree with you on that second part. He really should respond to what people actually post, though. Sometimes I wonder how people like him can figure out how to turn on a computer.
