Christians are medical geniuses

RE: Christians are medical geniuses
Here's one for you...
Ten days before I gave birth to my oldest, I found out that she was going to be born with Down syndrome. When I told the family this, my grandmother immediately thought we should pray it away so that when Jordan was born, she wouldn't have it.

It doesn't work that way, I explained.

She was adamant about it. Dragged me to a catholic church, where even the priest there told her it doesn't work that way. Then she asked if there were any surgeries that could be done to "cure" it. I said no.

Blood transfusion? No Gram.

Radiation? Me getting frustrated - No.

Chemo? Eye rolling - No. Stop it.

Therapy? Sorry. Not that either. It's a part of her DNA, Gram.

Can they replace it? Sigh. What about this do you not understand, Gram?

She decided that my child needed a miracle and started up a prayer circle of other clueless women.

Doesn't work that way either, I sighed.

Some people.

Nope because well... see my avatar.
I wouldn't want it to either. When people ask me if she has DS and I say yes, they are apologizing as if saying sorry from the entire world. I just reply that Down syndrome is a personality enhancement. Honestly, I think we could all stand to be more like these fabulous people.

We have three. Love them all. Each has their own little personality.
Yes.. snakes can have personalities. Peko, the one she's holding, likes to have her head petted. Lyko, on the other hand, hates it. And Crisco, our albino ball just likes to scare people with his little beady red eyes. Big Grin

We take them to schools and educate the kids and some of the teachers. The kids get a real kick out of it.

Just wanted to reply with the same line. It seems our primate heritage still can make us shiver.

Yeah, the long time vet of my now deceased dog said the same.

Well, I won't creep anyone out with anymore pictures. It was just one of the cuter pics of my kiddo that I could find at the moment.

Didn't even cross our minds, we were just happy he made it. Doctors think he lost a pound or so as the placenta had broke down so much already from being over due. His heart rate dropped from 120 bpm to 40 bpm every contraction. We didn't know cuz there was no monitoring at home. It was a very scary experience.

Thank you, he is 24 now. He is well. He had a genetic thing where he had pancreatitis at 15! He was in the hospital 4 times his Sophmore year for a week at a time. He became a vegetarian, started walking the 2 mile or so commute to school, lost a few pounds and only has had to be admitted once more when he was 18. It's a very odd illness for a juvenile to have.

Good news is eight years later, I had another boy. The midwife thing never came up. Happy, healthy, normal birth. No C section. He is almost 16.

Thanks science! Smile
