Morality and downloading

Can you answer the question or not? If you don't agree that it's the main issue - what the software developers stand to lose through online piracy - then say so and point to what you think the main issue is (assuming you think there is a main issue, rather than an assortment of issues).

Obviously I don't think it's an issue at all (affordability), if we're making moral declarations.  People do immoral and/or illegal things all the time which I can -understand- by reference to their socioeconomic status...I'm even willing to extend a little leeway to the person based on those metrics if we're looking to extend punitive measures...but the act is what it is.

-A hungry thief is a thief nonetheless, I'll never personally condone their punishment...but IP aint exactly food.

So, in your view, thievery as defined by the law (note that the common definition is not the one in the law) is always wrong, no matter the context?

I think that taking the productive efforts of others without their consent or remuneration is always wrong, yes.
(but I don;t think that it should be grounds for punitive measures in each and every case, legally)

And you don't think this assumes remuneration would be given if thievery wasn't an option? That it's wrong because the one who made the product is missing out on something?

It hardly matters what they would have done if pigs had wings..now does it?  We're talking about something someone -did-.  It's wrong to me for the same reason that I consider just about anything to be wrong. I wouldn't enjoy my productive efforts being taken from me without consent or remuneration.

How about you? Can I haz your shit..and all of your ideas?

Not what I asked. Why is it so difficult to get you (people who view piracy as immoral) to answer a simple, direct question?

I haven't followed your leading questions exactly as you'd hoped, sorry about that - but I think you're being narrow with it.  I've answered the question directly...and repeated that answer a few times now.

No leading questions. I'm asking for your opinion. Do you or do you not think your opinion is based on the assumption that the producer is being deprived of something?

You really haven't. Possible answers: "Yes", "No", and "Maybe". You've gone with option D - Dodge.

No, again, and for the last time..I think it is immoral because the person has availed themselves of another's productive efforts without consent or remuneration.
(which is, amusingly, also why it's illegal)
