Welcome to AF! Enjoy yourself!
"Every luxury has a deep price. Every indulgence, a cosmic cost. Each fiber of pleasure you experience causes equivalent pain somewhere else. This is the first law of emodynamics [sic]. Joy can be neither created nor destroyed. The balance of happiness is constant.
Fact: Every time you eat a bite of cake, someone gets horsewhipped.
Facter: Every time two people kiss, an orphanage collapses.
Factest: Every time a baby is born, an innocent animal is severely mocked for its physical appearance. Don't be a pleasure hog. Your every smile is a dagger. Happiness is murder.
Vote "yes" on Proposition 1321. Think of some kids. Some kids."

Welcome!
It's getting better here, slowly but surely. The internet isn't a cure for the disease of religion but it's a fair treatment.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

I'm new, and I'm in the same boat. I had this toxic waste shoved down my throat, and read just like you. I've been reading/watching some sort of religious, atheist, or science article/video everyday for well over a year now. I love learning new facts and like trying to understand other people's views. It beats reading "god's" word.
Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.' -Isaac Asimov-
