Or you could explain it.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

When you understand, you are standing under the common definition of things.
When you overstand, you go beyond the common definition of things.... aka, make stuff up!

Olay. I haven't studied the Urban Dictionary lately, but I'll give it my best shot.
Overstand is a play on the word understand. Under-over. What it means basically is to see through the other person's game and understand more than they intended you too.

Not make stuff up. But you do question bot only the common answers, but also question the questions (are we asking the right questions here or are we trying to find the right answer to the wrong question?). Go beyond the conclusions the other person is trying t railroad you to and know why they are trying to do that. Stand over what is common. You guys do it all the time. There's nothing common about you.

We can call this fabrication.
verb (used with object), fabricated, fabricating.
1.
to make by art or skill and labor; construct:
The finest craftspeople fabricated this clock.
2.
to make by assembling parts or sections.
3.
to devise or invent (a legend, lie, etc.).
4.
to fake; forge (a document, signature, etc.).

Wow - really?

So it means understand, in an emphatic sense. I'm down with neologisms and portmanteaus, as long as we're on the same page with the definition.
As to the usage of the word - how can you verify that the other person's game is actually a game and that your understanding of their meaning and intent isn't merely in your head?

You got it!
Yes, sometimes we have to check ourselves and remember that we are humans and subject to making assumptions. Take GC and Professor. I don't know them so I can't make assumptions about what drives them unless they betray this in their words, directly or indirectly. I can however, respond to their words and demand that those words make some kind of sense to me. Knowamsane?*

It just annoys me when someone throws around superfluous verbiage with the arrogance that anyone unfamiliar with the made-up terms are somewhat lesser because of it. Is that an example of 'overstanding' your intention?

No, actually. If you overstood my intentions you would look at the whole picture. You have been present in just about every thread I've started. Have you seen evidence that I am arrogant? This is a serious question because I don't want to assume that I know how I come across to others. But I take it that you are astute and would not have accepted my buddy request if you thought I was arrogant in a condescending way.
I'm not saying that everyone who engages in overstanding will always come to the right conclusion,. I know I don't. so I appreciate a challenge within reason.
I did think that the meaning of the word overstand would come to you, so I said sleep on it.

That was the furthest thing from my mind. I don't know the guy
Besides, he would be the one who is "up to it" not me.
