How can a Christian reject part of the Bible and still call themselves a Christian?

She believes that it is perfectly acceptable to be a homosexual because you should be able to love anyone you want.
I asked her how she could say that and call herself a Christian. She became iritated. I pointed out that her Bible clearly states that it is an abomination. She finally said " I don't care what it says" and ended the conversation. The stress caused by the cognitive dissonance was pretty high.
I find Christians do this a lot. They reject what they don't like in the Bible.

Yep.

Don't have an answer, because when I started thinking about this, I became atheistic.

~60 day lapsed necro post.

I'm so sad . . .
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

I may have already said this somewhere deep in this thread, but a Christian is just someone who believe that they follow Christ. They existed before the Bible was assembled and they don't all agree about what should be in the Bible. So my basic answer is why not. They can be Christian and reject the whole Bible.

What annoys me is people who claim the Bible is holy and inerrant and reject bits of it. That's a position at odds with itself.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

As long as Christians accept Jesus as Lord and Savior and repent, they know they've got that gold ring baby!
There's no need to follow or give even a shit about the rest of the Bible. Disneyland still awaits! (once you're dead)

They aren't safe they have to follow such a narrow path.

The prerequisites well some off hand well 2
1. You cannot love your family or anyone.
2. Must follow OT <- you already know who is going to heaven then Tongue They should have listened to jesus.

The primary motivation for being Christian seems to be to get into heaven/avoid hell. Everything else is just rationalisations.

Right? How many times is it reasonable to thank someone for doing something for you? Especially when it cost them no effort or resources and was just doing it for their own amusement. When someone gives me a present I didn't ask for, I don't ask them for moral guidance either.

It's pretty much impossible to follow every part of the bible, because of contradictions. Love your neighbor. Judge not, lest ye be judged. But stone the gays.
