Bigots can be found everywhere. Don't make the mistake so many make - that atheists follow some kind of dogma. I always give the example of Ayn Rand. She was an atheist, but in my book, a despicable hag. I wouldn't have pissed on her if she was on fire.
Atheism, as we repeatedly say, is just the absence of belief in any deity. Otherwise we can be anything and everything. Atheism doesn't define me. Outside of this forum I don't spend a single second thinking about it.
You make me want to see a thread started by you about Ayn Rand, so you can tell us how you really feel about her.

Whatever their "evolutionary purpose," they only have very limited bigotary purpose and are therefore to be ignored for the sake of unhindered bullying

I knew this was bullshit when I read #2: Lesbians do not have higher-than-average rates of HIV. The mechanics of lesbian sex, while not making it impossible, make it far less likely for them to catch, let alone spread, STDs.

It's all just the same old basic arguments. "oh gay people can't have kids... they're not good parents... they have STDs... they do DRUGS!!"
Bitch are you surprised we do drugs? You MAKE me want drugs.
Have another go when you think of your own original argument that hasn't already been pissed on 1000 times over, okaaaay?

No but seriously Yaeuleaux, it's bigotry's favourite and most evil principle: poison someone and then shun and taunt them for being sick. It is at work in many places (poor social classes, poor countries...) and this is a prime example.

I've seen stuff like this all the time "gays smoke more... they do drugs more... they drink more... they have risky sex"
I get all those things are totally personal choices and I'm all about encouraging people to be responsible. It's really frustrating for me, seeing a straight person criticise gay people for doing shit straight people do all the time. We just don't have the privilege of individuality like they do. It's like if a straight person does any of that stuff it's "because they're stressed", if I did it it's "oh this is gay people...".

1. The primary evolutionary purpose of a man and a woman is to propagate the species and raising children.
I just wanted to add one more thought to this first statement that so many others have already exposed as pure bullshit.
It seems to confuse sexual orientation with the actual ability to reproduce. Is there any actual evidence that homosexuals are incapable of propagating the species? It seems to me that gays and lesbians, physiologically, are no less capable of propagating the species than heterosexual couples.
I understand that their sexual orientation makes it far less likely that gays and lesbians will actually reproduce via sexual intercourse, but that's not the same thing as saying that they are incapable of it. My suspicion is that an awful lot of homosexuals have actually reproduced via sexual intercourse throughout human history for a variety reasons: caving to social pressure, forced marriage, rape, etc.
In other words, even if the notion of "primary evolutionary purpose" had any merit (which it doesn't), it still doesn't make much sense as an argument against SSM. Thanks to advances in medical technology, gays and lesbians are just as capable of reproduction as heterosexuals.
Just one more reason to be in favour of IVF.

What a bunch of bullshit arguments.
I think the more interesting point here is that it comes as a surprise to find an atheist who is against gay marriage.
Having said that, there are probably plenty of atheist bigots in England. My wife told me UKIP is against gay marriage, for what stupid reasons I have no idea.
