Rosemond is in the local paper every other Tuesday. No kids here, but the column is well written, and he makes LOADS of sense.
Get one of his books and try it out on the kiddlette for a couple months and see if parenting gets drastically easier (and the kid is just as happy/adjusted or even better).
I'll be sure to check it out. I doubt I will be trying it out on my kids lol. I've never really sought to make my job as a mother easier. It's pretty much all I have. So I put everything into it. Anything else always comes second to that. Some people think I go overboard with it, but I have really shitty parents and I want more than anything to give my kids the best childhood they could possibly have. I think a person's childhood greatly affects the kind of life they'll have as adults. My kids are smart, I want to nurture that. I don't like to make parenting decisions that encourage my kids to shut down their minds and just do whatever they're told. It makes being a mom a bit of a struggle but I think it's totally worth it.

I have until January to decide if I want to put her in 3rd or 4th grade next year. I'm thinking to go ahead and put her in fourth since she tested into fourth grade. She'll be tested again in January and then we'll make the final decision.

What a beautiful, wonderful, inspiring heartfelt post.
You deserve many many kudos for it IMO. Seriously every sentence is so caring and passionate. I'd think exactly the same if this was the first post I'd ever seen from you.

Just so you know, I skipped a grade early (not bragging, it is more commonly offered than people realize, I think) and I never regretted it. No one even notices you are a year younger, for the most part. I cannot think of any drawbacks I personally had...

There is no known or demonstrable academic advantage to skipping a grade. There are, however, known and demonstrable disadvantages that range from social issues to the reduced likelihood of things like sports scholarships. I'd say that you might want to approach the question under the assumption that there is no academic gain to be had, see what it looks like when the metrics are different.

I think the benefit is more keeping the daughter's mind engaged and challenged -- not that skipping a grade is the only way to achieve that.

In post 10 I mentioned my personal anecdote about skipping and whatnot. There might not be across-the-board advantages to skipping per se, but at least in my situation the logistics of our school system were such that, had I not skipped, I would've been in independent study for all of 7th and 8th grade in math and science (as I basically tested out of algebra at the beginning of 6th grade, and had I still been in 5th they would've run out of things for me to do by the start of 7th). That (being solely in an independent study and not a classroom setting at such a young age for multiple years) might've been academically/socially harmful in itself. Maybe.
Just stuff to consider.

Don't worry, my friend. If this be the end, then so shall it be.
