RE: What Religion, If Any, Were You Before You Became An Atheist?
I was raised Christian. Dont really know if i ever believed but i believed my parents and other adults were telling me the truth. Then some memebers in my family passed and angered me alot. Thats was around 10. Thats when i started thinking why would a god who loves us take the ones we love away before the done? When there still young? Thats what really set me off. I really stopped believeing then. Then i took a Philosophy corse last this semster and that pretty much made me athiestSmile

For Man to move forward we must throw away religion, and put it in the Mythology section, and then use Reason, Logic, and Common sense to solve all our daily problems. That's a Higher Level of Thinking.

I was a Christian. I attended a Congressional church. I aspired to be a minister in my early teens, but gradually I started coming out of religion.

I was TOLD I was Christian from a very young age, so I never had a chance for being anything else as a child, and it's against all odds that I'm here at this wonderful forum here today. I'm 29, and it wasn't until a few years ago that I converted (first to Agnosticism, then I "grew balls" and turned atheist.) My interest in Darwinian evolutionary theory led me to the answers I had longed for for many years. Once I opened my mind just a "tad bit," truth took over, and I've never looked back. It pains me and embarrasses me to admit that I was once a "believer," but now I just feel like I am SO fortunate to have ever left that life. Constant guilt, constant stress about tithing, constant enslavement. (And you can't say Goddamnit!!! That's my favorite phrase for stress relief!!!) I live in Oklahoma so it's VERY, VERY against the norm here to be an atheist, and I get the feeling that people think I've went crazy, but I started a blog about my conversion, and since then, I've had several friends and family members tell me that they think I'm on to something. Churches are big business here in the south, and I just feel that it's important to free others from the "intellectual slavery" of religion.

Well I started off as an atheist. Then I was brought up as a Catholic, now I'm an atheist again.

Put simply I was raised as Christian baptist but I slowly began to question my beliefs in my teens and in my late teens I became an atheist after trying many other religions.

I was raised a Muslim, tried my hardest to believe for years despite the doubts, prayed etc and eventually came to realise it was so hard because I didn't have enough evidence to form a conclusion.
