Another fake Catholic miracle.

Blind women claims to have been "healed":
http://www.12news.com/story/news/local/v.../79214840/
I remember the creator of the TV series ER, the late Michael Crichton, an MD and a somewhat of a renaissance man, describing this woman's condition (or something similar) where a woman comes into his clinic and she is completely blind but not upset because she knows that her condition is temporary. Forgot what the condition is called.

Still haven't seen the one where they regrow an amputated leg. they might show someone who is wearing long sleeves, and it seems to extend a bit, but not a straight up amputated leg stump.

Quote:But then she walked through the doors of the Saint Joseph Maronite Catholic Church, where she met Father Wissam Akiki.
"I blessed her head, both eyes and I asked God to heal her," Akiki said.
Two days after visiting the church, she said, a miracle happened -- she could see again.
Post hoc ergo propter hoc.
Demonstrate the vision returned due to the blessing and for no other possible reason.
Isn't blindness one of the most common psychosomatic conditions?

Jehanne, maybe this was what Crichton was referring to:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conversion_disorder
Quote:Conversion disorder (CD) is a diagnostic category previously used in some psychiatric classification systems. It is sometimes applied to patients who present with neurological symptoms, such as numbness, blindness, paralysis, or fits, which are not consistent with a well-established organic cause, and which cause significant distress.
...
In some cases, conversion disorder begins with some stressor, trauma, or psychological distress. Usually the physical symptoms of the syndrome affect the senses or movement. Common symptoms include blindness, partial or total paralysis, inability to speak, deafness, numbness, sores, difficulty swallowing, incontinence, balance problems, seizures, tremors, and difficulty walking. These symptoms are attributed to conversion disorder when a medical explanation for the afflictions cannot be found.[6] Symptoms of conversion disorder usually occur suddenly. Conversion disorder is typically seen in individuals 10 to 35 years old.
Quote:The original theory by the Ancient Egyptians, the condition was thought to affect only females, and was considered to be due to spontaneous movement in the uterus.

Yes, that's it; I recall in his interview on NPR saying that it was a psychological condition.

The Catholic Church claims that this happened:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracle_of_Calanda
As I posted in the "Talk" section, the big problem with this so-called miracle is, "Where's the body?" If Galileo, a heretic, got a Mass of Christian Burial, what happened to Pellicer's body? The Church is full of lies and churchmen of all ranks are expert liars.

Ah, back in 1640 before the advent of cameras. Yes, many wonderful miracles have happened in the past, before we had things like video evidence.
