Am I too shallow a person?
Not so much shallow, but your internet speed is largely pointless.
As you mentioned recently:
Quote:Divide speeds by 8 to get megabytes. So you can download atmost about 7.5 megabytes / second, which should be fast enough for almost anything you need to do.
Gigabit communication has only very occasional utility for individuals.
It is overkill for realtime video which (if I remember my calcs recently) your service can concurrently download and display 40 HD (compressed) video programs simultaneously. How many people do you have watching at any time?
It's been mentioned on this thread that such comm lets you use the cloud as an extended hard drive.
I don't trust my data out of my house. Watch the John Oliver interview of Edward Snowden. It's not that I'm a privacy activist, but it's pretty clear that data can be misused by unfriendlies-- see identity theft or employer scrapes of facebook.
Or maybe I'm just bitter.
After all, I come from a time when microcomputer storage was in the low kilobytes (Intel 4004) and efficiency was important.
Moore's law has made bloat of all sorts acceptable.
So how, exactly, does God know that She's NOT a brain in a vat?

For many of my use cases, my last mile speed (60 Mbps) is often not the bottleneck. I'd like to see increased bandwidth on the transoceanic pipes - I can rarely exceed 20Mbps transferring data from my European server (which has a dedicated 100 Mbps symmetrical link). Any other of my use cases - the most intensive which is streaming video - doesn't need any faster than what I have.

Here's my speed at about $40/month, completely unlimited bandwidth, unchoked, no p2p throttling, etc. Just straight-up DVD-in-1-minute speed. I'm very curious if anyone in the US or elsewhere can match it.
I had 24.96 download 3.6 upload and 28 ping
Not even close! Using wifi?

Gigabit internet lets me do some neat stuff. For example, I can access work files in real time, including big-data files like customers' videos for processing.

Gigabit would be very useful for me - working from home would be almost as convenient as working in the office, even if I had to use remote desktop. My employer would ha e to upgrade their service, though - mine is actually faster (!!!).

Okay, then put it this way: you can download your most recent 20 porn videos simultaneously, while working on your office computer at whatever its max internet speed is.

Nashville got Gigapower, and I have it too now.
Hard to believe the best that was available in my area three years ago was satellite internet with a 15 GB data cap.
Two years ago was 3mbps DSL.
Now:
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Holy fuck. Speeds like that are almost impossible in the UK.
I'm jelly. Very jelly.
