Hit a child, and it's called discipline. Hit an adult, and it's called assault. I think that's the main reason they pick the rear end to hit as well, because you get a different reaction when you hit a kid in a place where the public can see it.

Tell you what, then - the next time the girl at the shop short-changes you or the waiter spills a drink in your lap, swat them on the bum five or six times.  Let me know the results.

Chad's already admitted to hitting his nieces.  I'm not sure how that qualifies as 'agreeing'.  More to the point, adults are allowed to hit children solely because they are children, and Chad's argument seems to be that bum swats are the primary difference.  My point is that if you hit an adult for the same reason and in the same manner as people hit children, the consequences are different.

I am agreeing with you. I'm not saying hitting my nieces is a good thing. I'm just saying my dad was shit at bringing me up in a way that allows me to raise a kid without getting physical.

Several comments. First, I was spanked twice as a child. Both times were immediate and a reprisal for nth time time I did the same small irritating thing in a row. Neither did more than sting. Both taught me about trying people's patience. Neither suggested spanking was a good means of child raising.

I watched a teacher spank a second grader in the same immediate way. My sympathy then and now was with the teacher.

But spanking as a regular, let alone formal form of punishment is in effective at best, and abusive at worst.

What your video shows is abusive and counter productive. The spanners are ineffective. They can't even seem go get the job done. The spanking is obviously long after the crime (useless for a child that age). Arbitrary adult abuse is probably the message received.

I noticed that we aren't told what the boy did. I suspect that there is a reason for that.

But my big question is, you find it heart warming? What kind of sadist are you?
