I have pretty much the same view of Star Wars - I didn't watch those movies as a kid, but I kept hearing about them and I had seen a lot of stuff that was influenced by them, so when I actually watched them as an adult - they kinda looked like just another dumb 80's space-adventure. I find SW more interesting as a cultural phenomenon, than a story, or a universe. For example - I still haven't seen Ep. VII and all I remember from the prequels is that the kid becomes Darth Vader for some reason, but I massively enjoy watching people rave/rage about those movies...

Yeah, seriously, I never got what the deal about the Star Wars movie was. A friend made me watch one of them in theaters, and the whole time I was bored out of my fucking mind.

I remember a Jabba character and a cake. But, anyway, I think it's pretty safe to say GoT is the new cultural phenomenon, and I can't wait to see what follows it on screen from the world GRRM has created.

I liked the pod race. The bad guy's pod racer sounds exactly like a V-1 "buzz bomb" from WWII.

Truth is, I loved the original series when I was a child, back in the late 70ies. But rewatching them now simply bores me. There's a rumor, Lucas was all depressed because what he made turned out to be a child movie, back in the day. Turns out, he may have had a point.

The most boring movie and book series of all time, in my personal opinion. Just didn't enjoy it any of them at all.

I tried to read the books but never made it past page 3, never had any interest in seeing the moving talking version!

I enjoyed a lot of Asimov's writing, though, including The Foundation series. So I do like sci-fi, just not this particular instance of it.

Loved the books, didn't spend too much emotional investment with the movies. They cannot convey the same sensation, and it's useless to try, right?

Jackson did the best with what he had.
