OP/ED RANT... "You live in your parent's basment"

RE: OP/ED RANT... "You live in your parent's basment"
I spent my first year of sobriety in a dive motel and I'm pleased I survived, hell, thrived, there.

It might have been nasty and the guests unpleasant and scary, but it caused me to focus on getting my shit together and moving on. I was still there when Dave died, and my miserable 4th step experience. When John dumped me, I still had my room there to go to.

LOL, for all it's faults, that old real estate phrase, "Location! Location! Location!" held true there, gas station/convenience store at one end and walking distance to work. There was a place for haircuts, and I could carry my bike up to my room easy enough. It may have not been what I wanted, but it was everything I needed.

There was a huge fire while I was there, my car was the closest car to the fire that did not burn up, but it was damaged. (wasn't sposed to be driving, BTW, till I got all my fines paid off) And there were frequent police calls there for fights and drunk/disorderly. Hell, the damn Feds showed up and hauled off somebody for industrial espionage one day.

It might have been signed 'Motel', but just about everyone there was week to week or month to month. Can't say I ever encountered anybody that was there for one night or just a weekend. I was always week to week, even though I was there 15 months, I just hated the idea of being committed to staying there for more than 7 days at a time. (month to month was cheaper too)

Maid service (such as it was) was twice a week, but they just changed the towels and bedding, never saw a vacuum or anyone dusting or cleaning. The building was a maze of hallways, it had been built onto many times. Entrances all over, the place could not be secured. Nobody ever stole anything from there though.

I didn't do rehab, but I'd like to think my stint there was therapeutic, regardless.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

What does addiction or rehab have to do with this? Rich people have them too. Hitchens was rich, John Belushi was rich, neither of them lived in their parent's basements. Both of them died from their addictions.

IOW, I don't care where people live either.

I concur with the topic.

Thank you.

I only care about the economy as a climate, as a whole. I don't care how people live as long as they are not violent, and I think the best charity are livable wages and a life outside the job so that someone can spend more time with family no matter who the bread winner is. But I don't care about who does what.

Just asking what your position is on this.

For example, would you consider me a misogynist if I were to say "It's about when they turn into douchecopters because you aren't paying their vagina the respect they think it deserves."

I fully allow that there are a lot of injustices placed on men as a result of genderizing of roles in society.

I do not, however, accept that men have a worse lot than women, for several reasons, and I think that raising women up - not above men, but making them equal - and stopping this bullshit of feminizing things considered "weak" or "emotional" and thus associating femininity with weakness and emotion only helps men.

If you need an example, I find it absolutely atrocious that I had to take steps to handle my boyfriend's near-stalker because people laughed at the emotional abuse and harassment she was heaping on him. Because she's a girl, right? So how could she really be bothering him? No. Abuse is fucking abuse. Just because you're a man doesn't mean you have to have your emotions ignored or be told to "man up" when someone is harassing you.

But that doesn't change the fact that the vast majority of abusers and attackers and harassers are men perpetrated against women. Particularly online where anonymity lends a certain amount of protection.

I also recognize that there are women who claim to lead or represent feminism in some capacity and are outright batshit crazy. That doesn't mean that feminism is bad, nor does it negate the statistics of how women are treated.

There are far more MRA's than there are women who outright hate men and want them subjugated.

^^^^ This ^^^^

My ex tossed me out on the street the day after Christmas 2008. I don't think I have to remind anyone what economic conditions were like then. Despite being on the deed of a nice country home - and being entirely on the hook for the payments - I was basically homeless for awhile, then spent 5 years living in my brother's spare bedroom, and the last 20 months in a craptastic cheap apartment. Tomorrow I'm making the move back into home ownership - but it's a crapshack in a disadvantaged area.

The "basement dweller" meme is stupid.

I am not going to pretend men worldwide as  hole have it bad, no. Yes, the vast majority of violence in the world is done by men, testosterone would be that reason. I am only saying even with that while things are not equal, in that context, men are still subject to discrimination.

Oh yea, and your boyfriend being laughed at because he was stalked, total bullshit. I had an ex girlfriend long before I got married, in my early 20s. Super hot Hispanic girlfriend. Stupid me full of hormones took the verbal and physical abuse because I thought "nobody this good looking is ever going to love me ever"......

One day she got jealous because a lady crossed the street in front of our car. I didn't think anything of it. I go up to a college to get an application, she goes  in with me, and a nice looking blond was at the desk. Again, wasn't there to look, just get an application. She doesn't say anything. I was paranoid as fuck, not because I was doing anything wrong, but I knew how jealous she was. We get back into the car, and I thought MAYBE JUST MAYBE after all those times of telling her I only wanted her, she'd stop being so jealous.

NOPE, In the car, I stupidly said , "I'm impressed, you didn't say anything about the lady at the desk.'

Her response "OH SO YOU LIKED HER TOO!" She was silently steaming over the lady who crossed the street. Then she proceeds to punch me in the face while I am driving. I pulled over, told her to get out, and that was the last I saw of her.

Oh and back when I had my long term 7 year job. There was a black guy I worked with, a cook, nice guy, who had a white girlfriend, dont know if they are still dating now. But she also was jealous and would verbally abuse him for no reason if she thought he was "cheating" on her. Even when it was his job to talk to the female staff. Never saw him do anything that made me think he was up to anything.

So we are out on break in the back, all the sudden she comes storming out of the back door down the steps and charges at him, no provocation on his part at all. She starts whaling on him, and he did his best to simply block her swings. But even after that we had a talk with him and told him he needed to ditch her. But, like me, I am sure he thought falsely that jealously is love, and it is not.

Men are the the majority abusers yes. But even outside the issue of abuse, men can be discriminated against both economically and physically, but you are right, they are not the majority.

Usually people result to such petty comments when they allow their emotions to get the best of them or they can't come up with a logical rebuttal.

"The basement argument"........

Ok, this is the bullshit pejorative slur used when someone doesn't like the argument or blasphemy of the other. "You must live in your parent's basement" since I don't agree with you. Now, I have seen this BULLSHIT argument used by BOTH atheists and theists, and even with political and economic views. AND IN ALL DIRECTIONS......... FUCKING KNOCK IT OFF.......How someone gets, their bills paid, or where they live is none of your fucking business unless you are directly involved in the relationship. If you are arguing religion, then stick to the topic. If you are arguing economics stick to the topic. But, I will not put up with EITHER theists or atheists demonizing someone one like this. BOTH ATHEISTS AND THEISTS........

Where someone lives or what their class is, has nothing to do with if they are right or wrong. What matters is the topic and the facts they have to back up their claims, not their living habits. (END RANT)
