LOL, I don't pick up trash I'm not going to personally use after a certain point. I farm creep cluster, mora tapinella, and scaly pholiolta and make potions to use as currency - that combination is the most valuable and fastest leveling combination that can be farmed at one of the three homesteads. It's pretty easy to leverage that to make more gold than you can spend on leveling other crafts, housing, etc etc etc.

One of these days I'm going to try and finish the game on Legendary difficulty without leveling any crafting skills.

You bet!

That was potentially the best game in history, but the stupidly scaling mobs ruined the sense of immersion.

You know you can up or down the game difficulty, even in the middle of a battle?

I know the auto levelling of opponents can be a pain in the arse, but there are benefits.

I had a high level character - 60 + - clearing out an old tomb which was literally filled with druagr death lords and death overlords.  Got my arse handed to me several times, but my skills went up pretty quick fighting them and I was quickly overloaded with ebony weapons.

Cool

This is what I did: go back to area.  Get new gear, sell it, buy upgrades.  Go back to same area.  Get new, better gear, sell it for even more money, buy upgrades.  Go back to same area, get glass armor, sell it for big bucks.  Win.

For me, it really destroys the fantasy-- that there's a real world, and  you're in it.  If you go clear out some dingy little cave of lvl 3 mobs, and go back to find lvl 20 mobs jealously defending a campfire and a sleeping mat. . . you gotta wonder what is so special about that sleeping mat.

Wait a minute - it's my understanding scaling applied to outdoor areas. My experience was that once you entered an interior zone, it remained at the level at which you first entered it. It may not be universal, but I used that mechanic to farm low-level black souls in areas I had already been.

See, I rarely go back to the same area once I've completed it.

Some quests require you to, especially if you do multiple faction quests.

Right now, with my new character, I'm busy robbing all the houses in Whiterun (and I haven't joined the guild, yet).

I will definitely get the Skyrim Upgrade if I'm not too busy playing this...

I can confirm that I went to at least some interior zones, and had scaling mobs. Perhaps once you completely clear a zone of mobs, it resets the next time you enter it?

At any rate, I prefer a world where things just are what they are: a level 4 zone is a level 4 zone. Now, if there's a good plot mechanic like a major battle or other event and new, stronger enemies are released across the land-- okay. But just knowing that whatever you do, mobs around your level will just happen to be there, ruins the sense of immersion for me.
