One could read your post as saying that society has some kind of deal going where women are getting less pay and in return get lesser punishments, and that women don't have the right to demand equal pay as long as the other issues are the way they are. My problem with most feminists, or at least most of the vocal feminists is their use of the "privilege" argument. They'll go on and on about "checking your privilege" if you are a straight, white, man, but they seem perfectly happy to ignore their own privilege. It's a statistical fact that men get harsher sentences than women, but that's an aspect of sexism which feminists don't like to talk about. Feminists claim to want equality for women, but most of the time they are only focusing on the kind of equality that gives women an advantage in society.

This is why I prefer being an egalitarian. I don't give a shit what gender, sex, color, race, sexual orientation, etc. you are. I think everyone should be treated equally under the law, and in society in general.

Was she sentenced by feminists? Of course there is inherent sexism in our society when it comes to sex offenders - just as many other issues - but what does feminism have to do with it?

Your comment to me appeared to weigh one against the other - as if one complaint were made illegitimate by the other injustice.

I don't disagree. I think my conclusion is that the label "Feminist" has become pretty useless for me now. Who defines who's a feminist and what a feminist stands for... You can say "most feminists" are only focusing on the advantage of women, but not injustices that go their way, and it's pretty meaningless because nobody knows who those most feminists are supposed to be, and who doesn't count as a feminist.

This is why I don't take most feminists seriously. They want equal benefits for the same work as men, but they balk at the idea of sharing equal punishments for the same crime.

I agree with you, that if it where a man the punishment would of been much worse. I'm not sure what feminism has to do with it, I don't think feminists are fighting for more lenient punishments for women when it comes to sex with minors.

Brock Turner got a full 6 months for his crime. Which was clearly too harsh, if you go by what his father says.

Or how about Austin Smith Clem? Who got probation for raping a 14 year old girl, then raping her again when she was 18.

Robert H. Richards molested his 3 year old daughter. Also got a stiff sentence of probation.

And then you have Thomas Boden who raped a 2 year old and also got probation.

It's not feminism that's fucked up. It's our justice system.

I rather suspect that much of the light sentencing for women in this area of crime has to do with dudes high fiving each other in back rooms over "man where was she when I was that age?!" whereas an older dude and 16 year old girl is a situation for predation, as far as they're concerned. It's about who you think is allowed to fuck whom. 16 year old boy scores with a mom? Man, what a stud. 16 year old girl fucks an older dude? Something wrong with her. The older woman is something out of a Hot for Teacher fantasy. The older man is something out of Lolita.

That isn't feminism - that's a fucked up society, and much of perpetuated by both men and women. Reasonable feminists - of which there are many - are quick to point out that giving women an equal footing only helps men. Because lord knows we're aware that men get harassed and raped too, and treated as abominably as women about it because "you're a man, deal with it" or "men want sex all the time" etc.
