So this thread was just to make you feel better about the decision you were going to make anyway.

It's all too human. Next up: The thread to make you feel better about the purchase after it is made. It's a viable alternative to googling good reviews for the product after you've bought it.

Yhuuup. I honestly was off it for a while, then Alex K came in here and made me list how I'd be able to use it at school.

So it's ze German's faulten.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

I did it backwards, then. I've watched all the reviews, good and bad.

So for someone who had trouble justifying a tablet 5 minutes ago, to someone who needs it now because someone convinced him 3 minutes ago to buying the most expensive motherfucker out there! Sounds legit...

RE: Help Convince Me Not To
Almost 2 years ago, I got a tablet for the wife.
The rationale was - she uses the desktop computer primarily for email and facebook. And that requires turning on the computer, which was happening less and less. A tablet is always on, so that made it a reasonable alternative. Then the question was: which one? A decent one, decent processor, storage, screen.... and price. Ended up getting the Samsung Tab Pro 10.1" for 300€. Then got a 6€ chinese case for it - the official samsung case was 60€ in the store... hell no!
And it's still running as intended. Email and facebook... and facebook games... Tongue

For me, I can't justify the expenditure. At most it would be for reading... but I do that just fine on my phone.
Actually, the way I see it, a tablet is just a phone with a larger screen and doesn't make calls.
What can the larger screen provide? (keeping in mind that there is already a laptop in use with an even larger screen)
At most, some less bulk when carrying?
Carrying a 10" screen still requires special equipment... I don't have any pockets where a tablet would fit like the phone fits.
As long as it's on your back, the little extra weight from the laptop doesn't hurt much.

Oh, SC... one of the first things I do on my new laptops is turn off that sleep mode when you close the lid. Also, mine doesn't take much to connect to the wifi... it takes a bit to be usable when turning on, though.

Also, for those in the know, there is an X-server for android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai...rver&hl=en

SC, after you get that keyboard, get a Bluetooth mouse... why not?! Tongue

RE: Help Convince Me Not To
After reading the 'Yay, I'm getting a tablet and you just try and stop me mofos' thread the most positive thing I've seen about them is that they can be used as a fridge magnet  Big Grin I might also consider one if it had a battery life substantially longer than a phone, but I don't think they do as a rule?, so I still don't really see what benefit they offer over a phone other than the bigger screen.

The fridge magnet thing is also what convinced me!

It's completely not justifiable. I should be ashamed of myself. But I'm not... Big Grin
