It means as soon as theyre through silencing anyone who might vote otherwise, there will be an open election held under the benevolent gaze of their small arms and heavy guns.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Wouldn't be the first time. Let's wait and see.
It's been confirmed. The military announced they took over.

Links in German, but it's reliable. If you're old enough, it's not the first time this is happening. It's a peculiar situation with Turkey's military. They're kind of their supreme court when the constitution seems in danger. Let's see if it works out this time round, since Erdogan did his utmost to pull the teeth of the armed forces when he came to power. Worst case would be civil war.

Now the big question - is that a good thing or a bad thing...

I've got plenty of beer left. I'll be partying.
That's not going to happen. Let's hope we don't need anything stronger than beer by the time the night is over...
I've got some Jack Daniels.
Pretty sure we've got some proper Scottish whisky somewhere too.

Usually it's a good thing, since usually, to repeat myself, they're defenders of the constitution and step down again when the dust has settled. I once talked with some turkish collegues at an advertising festival and they put more trust in their military than the politicians to grant the freedoms of their secular state.

The BBC seems to paint a slightly different picture...
Turkey army group announces takeover on TV... ?!
"
PM Binali Yildirim earlier denounced an "illegal action" by a military "group", stressing it was not a coup. He said that the government remained in charge.

That's what our news are saying too. Doesn't mean anything though, if they manage to secure most of the strategic points. And if the coup is carried by the bulk of the army and not just some rogue officers. Which remains to be seen. But you, given your country, shouldn't be a stranger to the army saving the day.

aye!
I know how the army can save the day...
I also know how they can make things much much worse.... I certainly hope this is not one of these cases.

Also from our news.
Basically it says, the military announced to have taken over the whole of the country to uphold democratic structures, human rights and international relations.
The announcement came after Binali Ylderim's one

In Turkey it never was. As I said before. This is the third turkish army coup I remember. They always stepped in to protect the secular constitution and stepped down once a stable civil government was installed.
