What are you going to make that eventually won't be made cheaper in a place with no concern for human rights? We've got Pizza, because of delivery costs, and that's about it.
The theoretical good news, is that with the trade deficit as big as it is, it seems like the US has some leverage to tip the scale a bit in our favor. Maybe the cheapest tshirts available to us now cost 12 dollars instead of 8. So be it.

In the end though, it boils down to "I don't know." I know that corporations don't give a shit about America, and politicians do what's in the corporations interests. I'd like to see 8 years of someone having a go at trying something else. It doesn't work? Oh well. Gave it a whirl.

We're not the only country in the world with human rights, and we can't make everything better and cheaper than every country that has them. Pointing out that sweatshops exist in the world is a diversion of perception...it means that we're no longer addressing the inanities of protectionism or of subsidizing a failing market. Instead, we're focusing on some easier target, something binary and, to us, more clearly apparent and wrong. That's exactly how the conversation is manouvered by people who will promise you the world...even though they can;t deliver, and you probably wouldn't want them to if you considered what they were actually promising.
No candidate can bring those jobs back, or keep them here. Not for 4 dollars more, not for 40, not for 400. That;s not what wealth or progress looks like in the first place. Most of us couldn;t pay our rent for -current- factory wages. My wife staffs for automotive, I briefly staffed for nestle. Both factories we worked are -full- of people on welfare. That was our bread and butter. We used to haunt the the services offices looking for new marks..because we knew they'd take those jobs and be grateful for them, no matter how shitty they were. No matter how aggressively we could negotiate their expectations down. 80hrs a week, np. No bene's..np. Constant random screening, np. Usory disciplinary and time policies, np. Pay that won't get you off the dole.......np. That;s just what it takes to run the average factory here in the states nowadays....and giving the factory -owners- more money in the form of tax breaks and development incentives (which they already have, btw) won't change that. That;s what these candidates promise to protect, promise to bring back.
I'd like to see that too, btw....but Trumps not your boy..neither is Hillary. You're not giving that a whorl by voting for either of them. I understand your predicament, that you feel compelled to vote for one or the other...but there's no sense in blowing smoke up your own ass about what your vote will get you.

You are much more confident in your opinions than I am in your opinions. So I'm going to maintain a shred of optimism just for fun despite your objections.

You'd have to be more specific. Yes I have a great many opinions, but I don't know that our disagreement is over matters of opinion. We can disagree over opinion all day long, but if we disagree over a fact..well, is there really much cause for optimism?
All of mine went out the window when I saw who the nominees were. At this point, I;m just hoping that we make it to the -next- election with as little pain and misery as possible. I'm comfortable in the knowledge that neither candidate will make an effective president, that neither will be able to truly whip votes for whatever they claim their public mandate to be.

When it comes to the economy, I don't know if anything other than opinions exist. Seems like the best you can hope for is highly educated guesses.

I've always thought of myself as liberal leaning, and perhaps that's still true for hardcore right-wingers but recently I've found myself backing away from the liberal side of the arena. Even more recently, as the insane cries from the SJW crowd have grown louder and more prevalent, the backing away has become a forced sprint. I say forced because it's not as if many of my ideals have changed (I mean who doesn't change as they grow older) but that the left has rezoned them to center-right.
Frankly I'm fine with it, the less association I have with mad third-wave feminists, whiny bitches looking for equality of outcome, and race baiting twats the better.
