You know, there's a difference between being in a horrible situation and fearing it to happen on an abstract level. If I did, I probably wouldn't leave my house anymore. Truth is, I don't reflect on what could happen. If it happens, I have to deal with it then. But I wouldn't be better prepared if my mind was constantly fixated on all the things that could possibly endanger my life.

Reminds me of the old duck and cover bullshit, the US government spewed back in the 50ies. Wouldn't have saved a single life and only contributed to the mass hysteria of being in immanent danger of being nuked.

Truthfully, in it's correct definition, yes, I am worried about an imminent terrorist attack in Australia soon.
I'm not worried that I personally will be hurt, and it doesn't change the way I live my life.
It just worries me more in a philosophical sense as in "what the fuck is happening to the world".

Not to downplay the importance of Australia, but on the terror map it's probably the least important country. Only second to Micronesia.

France is a natural target because they're at the forefront of flying airstrikes against ISIS. Belgium is a symbolic target with NATO and the EU having their headquarters there. Turkey, of course. The other European countries, not so much, since they aren't as involved. Britain got attacked in 2005, but that was still Al Quaeda or affiliates, Spain in 2004, if memory serves. That was in response to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Could it happen anywhere? Of course. But, as I said, if I go about fearing imminent attacks, the only thing I stand to gain is a first class neurosis. But would I be safer? Not in the least. And, as I repeatedly said. I grew up with terror. One attack I lived through, as I said and many, many others happened in my vicinity. Munich '72, all the terrorist acts of the 70ies in Germany and Austria, the bombing of the October fest in 1980, the bombing at Bologna, and so on, and so on.

Agree... Our govt is rethinking the way they manage large public gatherings in light of Nice.
I suppose if you make it hard for them to have easy big kills, they'll go elsewhere.
